It's not about pass first PGs, it's about good decision making. Brooks is an above average offensive player, however his offense is no where near good enough for him to be a complete defensive liability.
Jameer,Carter,Barnes, and Lewis. How many offensive players does that make. What you don't understand and maybe its because you just don't is that its about team defense. The year the celtics won the title they had the best defense in the league. Kevin garnett has never been on a top 5 defensive team and neither has ray allen. They add garnett, allen and thibs and now all of a sudden they're number 1. They lose garnett for most of the season last year and still stay top 3. Team defense is what its called. Some teams are good defensively because they had alot of good defensive players and some are good defensively because they have a philosophy everyone buys into. I give you as many examples as you like, but its not going to change your mind.
team defense is not some magical potion that you drink, it requires that you have players with high defensive IQ. Boston didn't just "add" garnett and allen, that's just lazy. First they traded away all their bad defenders, al jefferson, gerald green, etc... They kept their best defenders and gave them more minutes, Rondo, Perkins. And they also added great defenders, posey, PJ brown Finally say what you mean, are you saying that Brooks is a good team defender? He has terrible defensive IQ.
Ok, so adding posey off the bench for 20 mins and adding pj brown off the couch magically turns the defense from worse to first? I don't think so. Of course there isn't a magic potion, but its more about players staying in front of their man and helping and sending players to where they're suppose to go. Rondo and perkins were already starting and playing before kg and allen, but thibs imstalled the defense and they went from the bottom to the top. Is it because they drank a magic potion or they're all great defenders? If you could comprehend the thought of team defense, we would have saved this conversation a long time ago, but since you have in your mind that brooks is the reason why the defense is bad, then thats your thing. I can tell you that scola is a worse defender at his position than brooks is. Kenny smith nor cassell were better defenders than brooks, but they had dream behind them.
you never answered my question. is brooks a good team defender? Brooks is not the ONLY reason that the defense is so bad, but his offensive contributions does not outweigh his defensive liability.
So the best PG in the game torches Aaron and all of a sudden he is an atrocious defender? Get of Kyle Lowry's cajones please.
Agree on a lot of that. I was saying in order for Lowry to TAKE the starting spot, he'd have to play not just a little better than Brooks but be truly convincing. Or have circumstances like injury to the starter and him taking the team on a big hot streak. Thats just how it goes. Brooks was the point guard starter that helped this team advance in the playoffs for the first time in ages. Lowry in that same postseason was very Rafer-like, everything you wanted except he couldnt put the ball through the rim. Plus Brooks now is showing it wasnt a fluke. That ultimately is what wins it for Brooks. If Lowry emerged and Brooks slipped, Lowry might be the starter. But it didnt happen.
