That's not entirely true. Our bench was the reason we won games earlier, every regular bench player had positive +/-, but none of them had nearly the same +/- Lowry had. AB played with bench too after Lowry got injured but he couldn't do what Lowry did. Rocket's best lineup this season had both Lowry and AB in it, with Lowry playing PG, even agasint other team's starting lineup.
are yall retarted brooks is starting no matter what. why would u not start the teams best active player. stop being stupid
Scola can create for himself, Ariza can create for himself against a lot matchups. Lowry can get to the line with relatively ease unlike Rafer Alston. they are enough to make defense honest. For the last 3 NBA Champions, Park couldn't shoot 3, Rondo couldn't shoot 3, Fisher shoot below 30% for his 3s in playoffs. Shooting 3s is not a requirement at all.
funny how pple on here were all on the AB bandwagon before and now that Lowry is gone for awhile pple see how important he was and is to the team. Now same pple are starting to hate on AB and rather see Lowry start over him . could almost see it coming. 60+% in favor on Lowry lol. Lowry was the man from the start.
DO you even watch the rockets? Ariza can't do **** in terms of creating his own shot. Scola has limited range, and Lowry can only hit baskets around the rim. WHy would the defense even need to guard anyone within 5 feet of the 3 point line. As for PGs that couldn't hit the outside shot. Parker has always had Manu, Finley, Bowen Bonner, SJax, etc who were all great shooters. Not to mention he did hit 40% from 3 himself in 06-07. ROndo had Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, 2 of the best shooters in the NBA. THe Rockets don't have anything comparable to that.
something I would like to see maybe is AB running the 2 and have Temple at the point. on D they could just switch defensive assignments cause temple is 6'6 and can play good d. Not saying AB is AI but would like to see how that works using him in the same fashion.
Wait...How do you know it was still effective against the other team's starting lineup? From what I understand +/- is a cumulative statistic and doesn't take into effect who is playing from the other team...
Dunno if I'm the only one who noticed this, but Lowry actually shot pretty well from 3 in the month of January. His overall fg% was still low, but I was happy to at least see him knocking down open 3's at a decent clip. Definitely a small sample size but still promising. %'s for the month of Jan: FG%: 41%(2.5/6.07) 3Pt%: 38.6 (.5/1.86) FT%: 84.4 (3.1/3.7) If he can start consistently hitting open 3's around a 36-40 rate, I have no beef with him starting when Yao comes back. With all that being said, I don't understand how you can be in the league for 5 seasons and NOT improve your jumpshot. So i'm not going to hold my breath about permanent shooting improvement from Lowry. Unrelated to his shooting, Lowry led the league in rebounding for point guards in 2010 (until his injury of course). Maybe this was related to Landry's falling rebound numbers in the past 3 months. Random stat for the hell of it.
If you watched games, AB and Lowry played together mostly in 4th quarter against other team's staring lineup, and Rockets team have the best +/- when they played together, it's easy to get the conclusion Lowry had a good +/- against other team's starting lineup too.
Ariza did create for himself, and create for others too, if you wathed the game. Not the most efficient, but he can do that, Battier never could. And you can expect Ariza to do much better shooting wise next year besides Yao and Martin. Scola's mid range and post game is good enough for him to be a scorer, means nobody can leave him unguarded like Hayes, that's a huge difference between Scola/Hayes, that would make a huge difference between next year's team/Tmac's team as well. Parker shot 40% in one year, but normally who couldn't. Ariza shot 40% as well in last year's playoffs. Parker never shot close to 40% in playoffs. It's just not required for a PG.
To all true rockets fans 1. PLEASE STOP BEING r****dED. Brooks currently is our best player by far. hes the only one that can score. stop wishing, stop hoping, stop dreaming that kyle lowry is gonna start or should start over him. kyle is one of the best underrated back up point gaurds leave it like that. he cant shoot like brooks, and the starting lineup does not have great shooters. stop bashing brooks yall bash anyone as soon as they go into a slump. 2.GET OFF OF MOREYS TIP. for those that dont know what that means it means to get off of his private part. stop saying hes the best general manager. hes not, mitch kupchak the lakers general manager is. he got pau gasol n allstar calabar player for freaken Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, and Aaron McKie. thats freaken crazy. morey instead loses landry for kmart. that deal was nun compared to the stuff mitch does. so get of his tip morey hasnt really done anything so calm down. 3. RICK ALDEMANS FREAKING OFFENCE. before tmac was traded all i heard was tmac dosent fit the offence. tmac wont run with the offence. the offence is better without tmac. we need a player that can fit in the offence. idk if yall have been to the last rockets games like i have or watched them on tv. ricks offence is not ******* working. were not scoring the ******** ball. its been like that for months. but yall keep talking about ricks offence. ITS NOT WORKING PEOPLE. and if its not working without yao it probally wont work with him cause yao cant get up the court as fast as others. 4. STOP BASHING ON OUR PLAYERS. yall bash everyone. yall bash brooks talking bout he turnover the ball to much he shoots to much. he the only one on the team that can really score. stop bashing battier he never was a scorer so stop acting like he was. offence isnt his game. hitting corner 3s are. stop bashing tmac hes freaken gone hes not our problem anymore. freaken haters. stop bashing ariza, he never could score hes always been a bad shooter so what hes doing now is nothing new. hes getting all those shots because we dont have a superstar. stop bashing anderson its his first year in the nba. europeans basketball players are nothing compared to nba players. stop bashing hayes i met him hes an awesome guy hes not a scorer so stop acting like he can. stop bashing taylor the guy barley plays he has alot of potential in my opinion like chase. they can only get better. 5. GO TO THE GAMES.
1.lol no ones saying brooks cant score but martin can ALSO score and would be able to play his game more if kyle started since he has more of a pass first mentality 4. i only bash ariza and im actually starting to like him but i will never stop bashing andersen he just plain sucks
Its not working because we don't have the right players. For it to be at its best we need someone like Webber,Miller in the high post.but sense we don't have someone like we need our pg to be the one that does that. And that's the problem.AB is not a pg.
I am not totally against moving Lowry to the starting lineup. I like Lowry's game and I think he might actually be an effective starting pg. I just think the +/- stats the OP and you presented don't tell the whole story. For example, your "Aaron Brooks with the bench" +/-. You forgot to mention Ariza got injured around the same time Lowry did. Thus Brook's numbers with the bench would dip automatically. For example, when we played Miami, Temple had 14 min and Taylor had 18 min. These players didn't play with Lowry. How about Aaron Brooks and Lowry coming in usually when teams tried to small-ball us (this was way back)? The whole attempt to small-ball worked in our favor on so many other levels that didn't have to do with Brooks and Lowry (i.e. Landry going off on the Warriors and bringing us back from a 10 pt 4th Q deficit). My point: +/- is ALOT more complicated than you and the OP are making it out to be.
Could have put this in either this or the Aaron Brooks "pass the ball" thread. Decided here. My gut reaction during the Orlando game was similar to others. I decided to wait to see how AB was developing this season. But I have to say, as long as Adelman seems to be searching for answers and/or player combinations, why not try Lowry as the starting PG with Martin. Or maybe let Martin come in off the bench once Lowry returns. And even though the Rockets made a run to get within 12, I probably would have given Hill more time when the game seemed out of reach, earlier, just to gauge where he is at this point against high level competition. I don't think it would have hurt his confidence. He realizes he has a lot to learn. I don't know if this group can "redevelop" good chemistry, given the number of different players added and the number of games left in the season. A bit hard to swallow the current situation, since they were playing gritty, reasonably successful, BB before January.
After Martin came, do you think Lowry should be in the starting line-up Obviously K Lowry is a better pg who could creat more opportunities for K. Martin and other players. I don't think there are good ways to balance the attempts between Brooks and Martin.
This year is a throw away year anyway. Let Brooks pile up that stats so it will sweeten the sign and trade we do in the offseason for Bosh.
