Adelman really doesn't like using specialist. Look at how many minutes hayes and deke got once adelman got the job. I think anderson with play more because of his offensive skillset vs dorsey who isn't that good defensive anyway.
Of all the guys we have that can play the center position they all have 1 element to their game that they are good at: Andersen: Offense Hayse: Defense Dorsey: Rebounding Mensa-Bonsu: Agressiveness If only we could put them all together into 1 man... However, I do think that Adelman and Morey will need to remove 1 of these players from the roster and I think that will come down to Dorsey or Pops. I haven't really liked Pops in the preseason yet, but he does have more NBA experience than Dorsey. I do like Dorsey as a rookie and I would like to see him get a chance this season to grow and develop as a strong guy down low, someone who can help us against guys like shaq, Gortat and D Howard. But lets see what happens.
Good point. But, I think Hayes' best position is PF. He defended PF like Dirk really well. But, I doubt he can defend the true centers very well. Dorsey has that potential, although he isn't Yao or Deke. Of course, potential is just potential...
I would rather have someone who actually GETS the rebound instead of "having the aggressiveness for getting rebounds." Pops plays with energy but it doesn't PRODUCE anything. He hasn't shown anything so far which doesn't surprise me b/c he sucked during the summer games. All reports show that Dorsey has outplayed Pops during training camp and preseason. I'm not enamored by YouTube videos of Pops dunking. Teams aren't going to allow you to have a dunk fest. I would rather have Dorsey who I know is at least consistent with one thing; being the best rebounder on the team. Yes, he gets into foul trouble, but he has a lot to learn b/c this is essentially his "rookie" season. I'm willing to see how he develops with more NBA experience instead of throwing him under the bus. Maybe we should have looked at getting a more experienced center to help Dorsey instead of looking at scrubs like Pops and Stromile Swift.
In 354 minutes as an NBA player, Pops has had a rebound rate of 22.3. To say he hasn't produced anything, while Dorsey has, is rather laughable.
Dorsey is pathetic. If he gets playing time, Rockets will be contenders for the worst record in the NBA. Dorsey won't be in the NBA next season.
Or maybe, possibly Adelman knows how Dorsey plays and works with this team, and has only maybe 5 games and 3-4 weeks to see what Pops can brings so he is giving him more time to see what is there. Just thought I would put that out there, since it is well pre-season, the the games don't count, and that is what you do in preseason...
well, actually he got the rebound for being aggressive.. precisely.. and also for those who saying that Dorsey is younger than Pops so that we must give him a chance, please remember that Dorsey only younger by three month.. hmm.. maybe.. i think Adelman know what's the best for the team.. for me, i don't really have a favorite between those two.. both players are undersized and have many holes in their play..
he has to get playing time. he's the only shot blocker on the team. he wont be great but he can be a decent shot blocking presence. its too bad he fouls a lot, dunno if his fouls will hurt more then he can help. if he can help more then hurting the team with fouls, he needs at least 10 minutes. he did good in his 2 preseason games. nothing great, but was able to rebound and block shots, also fouls. he can keep doing wat he's doing he should find his way into the frontcourt rotation. even if andersen is able to block shots, he'll be at best around 1bpg. dorsey fits the small ball lineup perfect. im rootin for him, but pops and cook want his minutes .
hate to see dorsey go. i met dude in person, and he is pretty cool guy. he looked pretty mad that the rockets wouldn't give any PT even after Yao and mutumbo went down. i know that probably kinda hurt Dorsey's confidence.
I think I'd like to see Pops a bit more then Dorsey. He is just so aggressive when he goes for rebounds and is vicious in the paint. Shame we can't just keep both and get rid of Cook.
We need as many big bodies as possible. Dorsey will only be played to give fouls or whenever we play enormous centers that our regulars can't handle (e.g., Shaq, Oden, Howard). I still would put Pops ahead of him in the rotation though because of his potential, but Dorsey is just too big physically to let go.
Yes, he has a guaranteed contract. I guess that could be considered doing something better. For that reason, I don't think we'll let him go.
Joey has a contract because he's been here longer than Pops. I'm not too sure about Joey playing here any longer he didn't play at all against the Bucks and Adelman played all of the starters. Pops looks like a mini KG out there he has much more upside than Joey.
