We didn't have good offensive players? hello, Yao, SF, Cat, JJ? MoT didn't even start. We still give MoT that many shots because he is a legit firepower! A better one than Grant! What players did heats have that year? It is hard not to stand out. MoT wasn't even our back up PF for half of the season that year. While, if you look into past, MoT had back to back 17 ppg seasons. If Mot could put up those numbers he used to, he would be starting too. Let's not talk about "he had a good year that year." Look at current situation, and you think Grant is better on offense?
And who did we have at PF? Mo Taylor was so bad that we had to convert our 1 dimensional backup Center to the starting PF. As far as Mo Taylor scoring 17 ppg, that was 1999 and before his injury. Do you honestly believe that if we had Brian Grant, he would not start over Mo Taylor? If Mo Taylor was so good, why did we continually list PF as our #1 priority before we made the Steve Francis trade.
......and what year would that be? Maurice Taylor
The year you mentioned, we had Thomas, EG in front of MoT. Last year we started Cato, but MoT came off bench and still put up better #'s than Grant (exept rebounds). This was done when we had a lot more other scorers than heats did. How can you deny MoT is a better offensive player. If we had Grant, our #1 prioity would still be PF. It doesn't change a thing nor prove Grant is better than MoT. Have a look of Grant's contract: http://www.**************/salaries/miami.htm Can you honestly say you would rather have him instead of MoT?
We had a lot more scorers than the Heat? Heat: Jones: 17.3 Odom: 17.1 Wade: 16.2 Rockets: Yao: 17.5 Francis: 16.6 Mobley: 15.8 The only reason people don't want Grant is because of his contract NOT because Mo Taylor is a better player. Briant Grant > Juwan Howard > Mo Taylor
What statistic(s) from those two seasons stands out? Shooting Percentage over recent years hasn't changed significantly. Rebounds on a per Minute Basis are about the same throughout his career. Since you cited 99-00, do you realize that was a contract season and he still couldn't get the Minutes per Rebound under 5.0 and it looks like Brian Grant has been under 5 minutes per rebound for his entire career?
They may not want to take Mo or Spoon, but they might be willing to take Mo or Spoon and first rounder, for a scrub and another TE...
Aren't we talking about whose contracts Jazz may take and then the topic became whether Mot's contract or Grant's is worse? I can see Jazz take Jones's contract over MoT's, but not Grant's over MoT's. Will the difference on rebounding justify the pay difference?
The Jazz are the wrong team to look at here. Another team with just about as much cap room as the Jazz are the ATLATNA HAWKS. And they DO need front court help. Now I doubt they would touch Mo Taylor....but he would fill a need for them there. I think you would have a better chance sending him to the Hawks than the Jazz. And noone is going to touch Spoon. Althought after this season he will have 1 more year on his contract and will be much more moveable next year.
Totally agree. Brian Grant is a prototypical PF. Make him the first or second scoring option, and he'd be approaching 20 pts per game.
I am a little doubtful whether that club is going to keep going. They aren't making any noise on the FA market, and they have a whopping $1 M committed for 05-06 season. Are they planning to shut down?
