I got your text yesterday. I'm sure it was some insider info. (I assume it was you based on part of the name)
It was funny yesterday I was listening to Dan Patrick and he said the bidding war between the Yankees and Sox was about to begin for Clemens. Patrick and Oberman were speculating on which of the two teams would win out. They didn't even think to open their east coast biased eyes and include the Astros in their arguement.
The Red Sox and Yankees could have negotiated with Clemens up until now. I don't see a bidding war happening, other than the traditional leveraging by the Hendricks brothers. Clemens will be an Astro and we're going to go to the World Series again!!!! (and we'll promptly lose to the White Sox again).
Oh, so now you check your texts. I see how it is. Care to share this insidious insider information? (I rhymed and alliterated there, I deserve it.)
Dude, why are you not getting that blocked message? Seriously, I'm not on the computer all that much at home anymore. Do my Swirve work and that's basically it. My bad, yo.
Check out ESPN's Buster Olney's blog: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=olney_buster#20060503 He says that the Astros are the only real choice for Roger. Basically, if returns to either the Soxs or the Yanks, he'll be picking sides, which he probably doesn't want to do. So it looks like the Astros or nothing.
I think there is an 85% chance he plays for the Astros. A 10% chance he retires. And a 5% chance he plays for the Red Sox, Yankees, or Rangers. $12 million + lives in Houston + all the perks he gets from the Astros (travel or not travelling, ect) = Pitching in Houston.
Right, *that's* why he'll come back to Houston. The narcissism of the NY/Bos/Briston media is quite something to watch.
It's amazing, isn't it? Honestly I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw Peter Gammons the other day. After talking about Clemens and the pros and cons of him going to the Yankees, Red Sox, Astros and Rangers, they asked him where he thought Clemens would end up. He said a 27% chance of the Red Sox, a 25% chance of the Yankees, a 22% chance of the Astros and then laughed... said he wasn't a math major, but whatever is left to the Rangers (I think - maybe he combined the Rangers and retirement). What's left would be 26% -- so basically the Houston option was dead last. Just funny.
It seems like this East Coast, Yankees and Red Sox bias is just getting worse every year. Maybe I'm older and I notice it more, I don't know.
It's getting worse. The other day (I think Sunday during the golf tournament) they had a quick sports break. They mentioned just 3 baseball scores - Yankees, Mets and Red Sox.
Wow, how r****ded...all he said was "I don't know, it could go in any direction. No real info at all.. just seems stupid to pretend to have info by adding 3 percent here and subtracting 2 percent there
The Nats just sold for $450M. The 29 other owners paid $120M for the Expos in 2001 or so. Drayton gets ~$15.5M from the sale. So Ted Lerner basically just pitched in $11M toward Roger's salary. Nice of him.
To be fair, much of this is caused by Roger saying he's interested in pitching for those teams, his agents talking to them, etc. Roger loves the attention and he's playing it for all its worth.
I think Rocket pitches for us no matter what the Bosox or damn yankees offer him. First of all the 12 million is just to get the negotiations started. If he pitches here his income goes untaxed by our state goverment, not the case for boston and new york, he knows this so do his agents. Second, the Stros are scoring runs baby!!!!! this is a luxury he didnt necessarily have last season, we have a better record, hell we have the best record in the NL second only to the reds. And last there are so many reasons for him to stay in houston that we cant even begin to think of them all; family, hometown, blah blah blah, the Rocket is back baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!
