Be careful. Major Malcontent and Isabel will come out of the woodworks and write a novel on why its ok to be fat and that its ok to eat everything in sight and not exercise. Good Post BTW
Yea! Lets turn the Olympics back into a contest between the Free World and Communism! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DcDtkBfn2SI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DcDtkBfn2SI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> vs. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3sdKq00uZjA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3sdKq00uZjA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
When the Spelling-Bee, Chess and Cricket are added to the Olympics, we will have a higher medal count. Honestly, people don't care about sports in India besides Cricket. Your entire life is about education, if you're not a graduate from a high-end school you're essentially a failure in society's eyes.
it's the same in China. probably worse. the imperial exam system went on for about 2000 years. in the modern days, it's the college entrance exam. almost all kids study 16 hours a day from age 6 to 17/18. they don't do anything sports. that's why the centralized sports system is the only method for China at the moment. in the future, i would like to see an individual based system where people play their favorite sports.
Were we growing up in the same country? Chinese kids do study longer than Americans but we love sports too. From elementary school to college, I'd say at least 1/3 of us played ping pong/badminton/soccer/basketball/... regularly. Sports facility is limited though.
i was talking about most kids study. of course there are a bunch of kids who likes sports better. not enough facility for everyone. sometimes have to wait days to plays soccer. one of my cousins, she is a really good swimmer at 11. but she told me she doesn't have time to swim anymore. have to get into a good high school.
If India ever gets organized athletically, they should in theory be an athletic powerhouse and not the 97-lb. weaklings that they currently are. If you've ever spent time in the Punjab where the Sikhs are from it becomes obvous that instead of smaller folks like you see in other parts of India and Asia you're surrounded by a ton of pretty big athletic-looking dudes (mostly in the army, though the turban adds a few inches), and weightlifting and wrestling (both amateur and the, uh, pros from WWE) are pretty popular out there. Of course "India" and "organized" are mutually exclusive terms in a lot of ways.
