From what I’ve seen, Cam doesn’t do anything else on the court very well other than score and certainly not consistently. Not sure Ime is giving a pass to him. Say what you want about Jalen and his passiveness, but he was active defensively and did other things on the court. In Cam’s limited time, I haven’t seen that. Jalen improved immensely as a general player on the last two seasons with Ime. Cam doesn’t look serious when he’s playing in garbage time and that clearly matters to Ime. If you’re just going to be casual because the outcome is determined (win or lose) then you don’t deserve serious minutes. Maybe he gets serious this offseason and puts in the effort, if not, he’s still going to be fighting for a rotation spot.
Funny how some of yall gave Jalen 307 starts, 4 years, and over 10k minutes played but have already made up your mind about a guy who came in younger and wasn't gifted all this oncourt learning time... And some of ya'll have watched Jalen all this time and STILL want to give him more time, but want to ship off a 20 year old with only 5 starts under his belt because you're a body language expert... Then will talk out of both sides of your mouth and say Cam doesn't play within Ime's system, and then turn around and say Ime's system is the reason Jalen is trash because Ime doesn't really have an offensive system. All the while ignoring actual data that in the time he's gotten to play Cam has a better FG% from everywhere on the court, Better TS% (even while not having shot FT's well), better rebounder, gets more steals and blocks, fewer turnover, produces more points per minutes played and has a better Offensive AND Defensive rating...All while having a lower usage rate... Literally the only thing Jalen has done better get more assist. And Jalen is really not even THAT much better in that category because he himself is a below avg passer. I GUARANTEE if Cam were allowed to play the minutes and be given the leash that Green has been given he would IMMEDIATELY be a better option. Jalen has been given the longest leash out of any of the young players we've drafted since he's been here. He was the earliest and highest pick, "has all the ability", yada yada yada...And some are STILL making excuses for him, but have decided Cam is what Cam is....LMAO...
There’s a reason Cam tumbled in the draft until it reached a point where Stone figured it was worth burning a draft pick in the hope everyone else was wrong. Attitude-wise, he reminds me of guys like Michael Beasley and OJ Mayo in that he’s obviously talented but doesn’t seem to think enough about game situations, working with teammates, etc. A lot of CFers seem to think that if that bench guy were just given a chance, he'd shine like a polished diamond. But historically, it's much more likely that the bench guy doesn’t do much other than prove why he’s a bench guy. That said, if Cam somehow becomes a solid starter here or elsewhere, I’ll eat a crow pot pie. He’s definitely got the confidence in his game that Jalen lacks.
I agree with you on Reed as I really wanted to see what we have in him and we badly need shooting. I don't get what you see in Cam. He's lazy, a ballhog, allergic to defense and is a me first player. It seems you prefer those guys though. KPJ, Cam, ect...Those are losing players. Cam screwed Cam. We saw exactly why he dropped in the draft. Lots of guys with talent flame out in the league and I think that's going to be Cam unless he's traded to a bad te that doesn't care about winning. I'm with you on trading Jalen but not if Cam is the replacement. I don't want him anywhere near this team. Same as I didn't want KPJ, Terrance Williams, Cato or and of the other players who only cared about themselves and were lazy and didn't listen. On Ime he needs an offensive assistant but we need to bring in a scorer who can close games. Easier said than done. We lacked adjustments and any semblance of a half court offense
Exactly. Cam isn't SGA. That's about as absurd as people here who compared Green to Kobe. Unless Cam is traded to a bad team that doesn't prioritize winning he'll move around the league as trade filler and be out of the league. Reminds me of Terrance Williams
In this post season news conference Ime spoke as if Reed and Cam would be back for next year. See 3:25
Reporter: “Cam said he was unsure of what his role on this team is. What does he need to do to get an opportunity?” Ime: “that caught me by surprise because we’ve had several conversations on what’s expected. Some guys took advantage of their opportunities…” I was told I had issues with critical thinking so someone explain this to me.
...if you guys were sick of Jalen Green, you are going to grow to hate the Cam Whitmore experience - and I'm saying this as a fan of Whitmore....but the dude has FAR more issues with his game on both sides of the ball than Jalen Green does.
I believe there is a disconnect between Ime and Cam. Cam obviously felt he was doing the things that warranted him getting more playing time but Ime basically said he wasn’t or that others just were better. It would be in the best interest of the team for them to figure out how to get on the same page because I think they both could help each other.
What Ime says tells the story most of us already know. Cam doesn't listen and has the basketball IQ of a tree
So many times Jalen has been excused for his age. Cam is 2.5 years younger. Hopefully they can encourage more internal competition between Cam & Jalen - if they don't make any moves. Maybe Cam is Josh Christopher, but maybe he's just as good as some people's darlings Jalen and KPJ with enough minutes. Jalen is so far much more Lou Williams than Kobe Bryant. We've seen that movie multiple times. Shake it up - either minutes or trades. Let's go.
