On paper, no he shouldn't leave. He's got some young, high-potential talent (with some rookie contracts) on his team. They have some money to work with and, if he signs a long-term deal, he himself will be an asset to attract other talented players. The chance to play with CP is the reason Dwight Howard will accept a trade to LAC. He'll be the reason a veteran will accept a below-market contract to go there. He'll be the reason a good player will choose the Clippers' MLE offer over the MLE offer of 6 other teams. In reality, I still have no confidence that LAC has the requisite corporate culture to put together a winning team. I think they're getting better as Sterling's oppressive cheapness has ebbed a bit, but you don't change the culture in a day or a season. If he does stay, I predict a career frustrated by an endless repetition of second round exits. In the meantime, he might be able to help LAC recover from Sterling.
I think he stays because it's a big city like he wanted, but ultimately goes no further than game 7 of the WCF, maybe even gets swept in the finals if Durant gets injured or something.
the clippers may be worse next year - griffin imo hasnt shown too much improvement from year 1 to year 2 and considering he had a year of watching that is more troubling. then Jordan hasnt improved at all and he has been in the league longer than Griffin. I dont see how they will be able to keep all the guys that will be unrestricted free agents this season without spending money - something sterling hates to do. I doubt Billups and Martin will sign on the cheap again (maybe Billups) Chris Paul I dont see how he stays he has a terrible coach in VDN and players that may not improve at all next season and losing what depth they had. I mean unless Sterling opens his pocketbook but that is very unlikely at this point. Factor in that there could be other teams improving next season - Golden State and hopefully the Rockets there is no lock that the Clippers will make the playoffs - i think they will be fighting for a 6-8 spot next season. If that is the case then CP3 is as good as gone
Well said Yoyo. He should leave. Playing with Blake "most overrated player in the NBA" Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Whoopty Doo. And VDN.
Unless they get a significant upgrade at head coach and Griffin actually becomes an effective player rather than a highlights only player, the team is going no where.
