i disagree, he had to get familiar with a new system and teammates, and to make matters worse it was a 50 game season due to the lockout. his effectiveness was also reduced having to play with 2 ball dominate players in barkley and the dream(who might be old but they still put up respectable numbers) i don't know why you call it the mj-phil-pippen offense because i already stated that without jordan, pippen put up 22pts 8.7reb 5.6ast 2.9stl .8blk on 49% shooting and winning 55 games (2 fewer than the previous year). my original point was disbelief in that the OP called pippen a 3rd option, when he is at least, the GOAT sidekick, and at best a #1 option.
pippen'day in houston is 3rd option, let's be honest, that's why he complained and complained, artest has history complained about offense touch, again, i am not saying positive on artest isn't good, i just wonder. artest want good number to get what he wants ----- money, i can't see him get in houston.
after rereading the OP, i can now see that my first statement was faulty. as you were comparing pippen as a rocket and artest as a rocket. i will slowly exit away from this thread now. good day
No, because there is no one on this team named Charles Barkley... The ball will move from side to side allowing the entire team touches. This team is far more versatile than the team Pippen was on. We have better guards for one. Next, we have a power forward that doesn't demand the ball and a center that is very unselfish, almost to a default. Lastly, we have a coach that will actually coach the team and remind them, when necessary, to focus. I am so excited about this team!!!!
rofl, such a crappy thread (2 stars) and Sina quoted it http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2008-09-21/16273964586.shtml probably only reason cuz poster binfei is chinese.
dude, did you not read anything? Because MJ left, doesn't mean that Phil Jackson changed the offense. Seriously, Its too obvious that some people never saw basketball games in the 90s. Rudy T ran a completely different offense than Phil Jackson. guess what Phil Jackson ran with the Lakers? its the triangle. #2 I love how newbs completely ignored that Pippen was not wanted because his antics and jealously against Kukoc. This was written by the Chicago Tribute.. the main newspaper in Chicago! #3, still avoiding the whole max salary situation like you cause you never these Rockets play. what stupid franchise would pay the #3 option the max salary? he was brought here to shine post Jordan to prove he could carry a team. did you read Clutch's article on this ? do you not agree with him? he's only our leader and the one who created this site. I believe he knows his stuff, if you don't believe my takes.
I tend to think he'll become another rodman who is also very "red". Besides, Rod and Ron are both great defenders, both underratted as well. There are only two points different between Ron and Rod, the ability for offense and the hair's color.
1st of all trust me hes different then pippen. Ron is still in his prime. Pippen came on our squad a little bit late.
sweet words.... Pippen's career ended the day he left phil's offense. he was far too stupid at 33 to learn a new trick and adapt to new ways of doing things , it was a horrible signing and in no form or way is it resembling the artest signing. we only have artest for 1 yr and what 7 mil .... you cant ask for a lower risk, higher reward situation ... Artest is still in his prime and hungry and pippen was washed up and selfish. Its irrelevant if artest works out or not ,,, hes still no pippen .
The main reason the Rockets struggled with Pippen was because that core was really old and had injury problems. Pippen's game started to get worse in 98, his last season with the Bulls. He had back issues, and in the playoffs there were a few games where Pippen looked old. Then, he came to a team where he didn't fit in. Rudy T. had no reason to change his offense for Pippen. When Dream gets you 2 titles, you can't just tell him to stand outside and take jumpers all day. That would be an insult to him. Besides, Olajuwon, was still the most versatile and talented player on our team, even at 36 years old, and Barkley was 2nd. Pippen's weaknesses were shown. He was a good player in a more up-tempo and slashing offense. He really can't isolate, and that became appearant the older he became. It caught up to him. With MJ, Pippen never really had to isolate much on his own. With MJ posting up or driving, he would find Pippen slashing or spot up for a few 3's, and Pippen could play the passing lanes so he got many easy buckets in Chicago. In Houston, Olajuwon and Barkley would post up and that offense simply relied on how good your main options were and how good your 3 point shooting was. Pippen's strenght wasn't 3 point shooting, and unlike Drexler, Pippen didn't have a great post up game and wasn't a player who would beat you off the dribble. Drexler was a much more complete and explosive offensive player than Pippen, so he fit in with the offense much better. That was just a bad fit, and when you have an unproductive star complaining about not getting touches, guys like Barkley won't stand for that...he'll just tell you to step your game up first (gotta love Chuck for that, he took no nonsense!). Dream knew he was gonna get his touches and didn't feel that Pippen's complaints were worthy of responding to, so he just went out like the pro he was and just did his job and produced. End result: Age, injuries, lack of team chemistry, and youth at the guards caught up to the Rockets vs. a hungry Shaq and Kobe. With all that being said about the 99 Rockets, it is possible that could happen to this team. Although our core isn't nearly as old as that one, they seem to be injured more than that core was. But, when healthy any of these guys can put up 20-25 a night if needed where as that core of Dream, Chuck, and Pippen couldn't just put up 20 ppg they way they used to earlier. Another reason for worry could be enough touches for all 3. I know Tmac doesn't care to score 32 ppg anymore, but he knows he makes plays with the ball in his hands. The same can be said for Yao. He's the one of the most efficient scorers in the NBA. Artest can score well too, but he is an isolation player. He will dribble a lot and take some ill advised shots. But if Adelman can get him and Tmac on the same page offensively, I don't think this team will be another version of the 99 Rockets. The good thing about this situation is that Artest knows the offense. That will make the transition a lot smoother. My prediction: Things will be okay, and we should be a top 3 seed in the West and get out of the first round.
I don't think so...I believe Artest is the missing piece to the puzzle and we'll go all the way this year...
Pippen, no, please do not bring up pippen. I pretty much forgot about pippen until you brought his name up. There is no chance of that happening especially since this is contract year too.
There can be no other greater player that the Houston Rockets picked by free-agency other than the great Scottie Quitten. He cannot even be passed by the Posey attempt, or worse yet, Plastic-Man. Any other player was just a possible hope that they may become greater than advertised, such as Cato or Swift. Ron is expected to be mediocre or fail. At best, he will match Yoa with 20 pts per and 10 boards. If he gets more than Yoa and Tracy, I'll be dissappointed if the Rockets don't repeat as champions in 2009-10.
I don't think we need to worry about Artest taking away shots from Tmac and Yao. You have to remember, this team hasn't been a top 10 offensive team in a long time, certainly not last season (although probably were for parts of the second half of the season). The only the I worry about is will Tmac and Artest bump heads. Tmac has ran Mike James out of Houston twice because he didn't want to pass the ball. But I predict that at the end of the day Tmac wants to get out of the first round (and the second, etc) that badly and he knows that a good relationship with Artest means his chances get even greater. In any case, you have an offensive coach that Artest respects immensely and Yao and Tmac love. Save for another Detroit brawl I can't see anything bad happening off the court for Houston.
