pippen in many ways came out to be a point forward and jacked a lot of threes...something way out of his element. the other star players were in decline.... artest comes into a team that might have won a championship if yao, alston, landry, and battier were healthy. add barry and dorsey plus a year for our last year rookies and you have pretty deep team. its a completely different situation.
lol pippen as 3rd option, he led the bulls to 55 wins after jordan retired, they had 57 the year before with jordan.
part of me says you never saw pippen play with the rockets and you just like stats. pippen won under the triangle offense with phil, you take him out of that offense and you put him another system and see what happens. where did he lead the rockets? where did he lead the blazers?
Nothing alike. pippen pretty much wanted to have his own team and move out of jordans shadow. inturn he wa put into olajuwons shadow and he's ego couldnt handle it. artest has no ego issues.
are you crazy? we're talking about a player who has averaged more than 20 ppg just once in his career. he's averaging just about 16 ppg over his career while shooting 42.5 % on fgs. artest is a little bit like lamar odom offensively. they're both talented, they can both score in multiple ways, they both need their freedom on offense but they both are just 3rd options on elite teams, nothing less and nothing more. artest is your ideal 6th man on this team but he won't average more than 16 or 17 ppg if tracy and yao will be healthy most of the time.
I'll reserve judgment on Artest until he actually plays a game. I don't think Artest will be another Pippen though at all. It's a completely different situation. Yao is on the rise and McGrady is still very good as compared to the team pippen came into with Barkley on the decline and even Olajuwon on the decline. There's always the possibility of Artest going postal, sure. Yet, let's give the guy a chance before ragging endlessly on him.
Friedman has been saying that Artest is the hardest worker in practice, and I remember hearing it somewhere else too. As far as his game on the basketball court is concerned, I think Pippen is the last person we're going to be comparing him too by the end of training camp. With him, Yao, and Rafer all with reputations for being hard workers, the best comparison I see is to the Boston No-Shots-After-Play-Stoppage Celtics of last year. Except we'll be the Houston No-Layups Rockets. I like the way that sounds.
If Artest can rub off just 75% of his toughness on this team (particularly Tmac and Yao), I believe this team will finally be able to take the next step and more getting out of the first round. If the Boston Three showed us anyting, is that you don't need three superstars necessarily to succeed, but you definitely need that one tough-minded glue guy/leader to lead us farther than ever before, and I think Artest fits that mold perfectly. Jordan alone couldn't do it himself, and even he himself rightfully admitted that.
i'm talking about a prime pippen whereas you are talking about a 33 yr old pippen, and it doesn't help that his stint here left a bad taste in your mouth either.
would really love to hear how; "great defense skill, good scorer, temp & come as third option" relates to attitude. Pippen's problem was his attitude. if "temp" isn't temperature, also guessing it ain't temporary ... only one viable alternative left. Roget is your friend ...
if Pippen wasn't PRIME, then why on earth did he get the MAX SALARY? wake up dude, you mean to say that his change to a new offense and coach had nothing to do with it? Again, I saw your so called Prime Pippen. I call it Pippen with Phil and Mike doing the triangle offense. Pippen on the Rockets was suppose to be the leader, and dynamic play maker. and memory plus Clutch's great articles about this subject proved that all Pippen did was complain and complain. and in the playoffs, what did he do? shoot the winning shot?? naw.. pass it Air Cuttino Mobley..the rookie cause Max Salary guys don't take pressure shots Don't test the Tinman's knowledge of Scottie No Tippin Pippen and EVERY SINGLE 1999er wil back me on this subject Pippen was a fraud..plain and simple, no championships after Mike and apparently no money in the bank account
Tinman=Correct Pippen wasnt use to our coach,or our offense,so thats two negatives right there as in Ron Artest is coming into a familiar system. You think if Phil Jackson came to coach the Rockets while Scotty was ballin here,he would have complained as much?nope Artest will NEVER turn out like Pippen....the ego that guy had...it just makes me sick even thinking about what would happen if Artest went all Pippen on us...... The Pippen days were the dark ages for the Rockets and for my household....my dad would come home cursing Pippen's name.lol.If i speak of Pippen's name around my dad to this day he will go on a 30 min rant on how he destroyed the Rockets from the inside.Nah,I can see that Artest is being straight up on how he feels oh yeah, lol @ Clutch's articles on Pippen
on top of this, Phil DIDNT WANT PIPPEN ANYMORE!!! Any true NBA fan knows that Pippen was JEALOUS of Kukoc and showed ZERO leadership ability when he was ANGRY that he didn't get the glory and Kukoc did! Was Kenny mad when Sam hit the 3 against the Knicks? Was Sam mad when Kenny hit all those 3s? Was Dream mad when Maxwell went off for 35 on the Suns? Was Horry mad at Elie for the KOD?? NEVER Pippen COULD HAVE SIGNED with CHICAGO, but he wanted to be the man and show that he was awesome without MJ AND PHIL. So he signed a MAXIMUM.repeat it again for the newbs, MAXIMUM salary. You know what we got Artest for??? a 2nd rounder Even TRUE BULLS FANS knew that PIPPEN was not a leader based on this Kukoc and Phil rift. Phil had a chance to get Pippen again for the Lakers, but nope, he'd rather have Horry. http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-4228960.html See more articles from Chicago Sun-Times Chicago Ought to Give Pippen Walking Papers Article from: Chicago Sun-Times Article date: May 15, 1994 Author: Jay Mariotti Chicago Sun-Times. (Hide copyright information) He stopped to mumble a few hollow words, without apology or remorse, and then he fled out the side door. Maybe it's best if Scottie Pippen kept right on walking, all the way to another NBA town. When he is so obviously angry and bitter, so hateful of management, so resentful of Toni Kukoc, so tormented by the burden of following Michael Jordan, why should he and the Bulls continue a poisonous relationship? What you saw Friday night was not an aberration, something to dismiss at tipoff today. No, this was the latest in a frightening series of incidents that are ruining Pippen in Chicago, destroying any hope he can be a hero for the masses and a trusted leader of the Bulls.
