OMG, we've got so many street names whose "correct" pronunciation is a butchery of the name's origin. They do it to French (like Chartres St), but I've always surprised we can butcher a Spanish name (like San Felipe). I think we actually somehow do a better job with German names than any other.

We're not alone though. Montepelier, Des Plaines, and a bunch of places make a mockery of their origins with the way they are pronounced.

As for funny names, I saw a This Way and That Way, I think in SC. Wunderlich in north Houston is funny.

You also have This Way and That Way in Lake Jackson and in Bay City...

Up in Montgomery, there's a Lois Lane right around the corner from Clark Road.

Go down to Lake Jackson in Brazoria County and you'll be confused as hell sometimes. They have streets named That Way, This Way, and Any Way.

Person A: "Which way do I go?"

Person B: "You go down That Way?"

    Person A: "Which way?"

    Person B: "That Way."

Person A: "Okay? *with confused look* Where do I go after That Way?"

Person B: "You go down This Way."

    Person A: "......"

In Paige, TX, off Hwy 290, between Austin and Houston, there's a road called "Old Potato Road". For some reason, that always makes me chuckle.

And in San Marcos, there are two roads right next to each other: Short St. and Long St.

I stayed in a hotel on Tchoupitoulas a few weeks ago, and I still don't know how to pronounce it. I said "CHEW-pi-too-las", and while I got some funny looks, people knew what I was talking about. How are you really supposed to pronounce it?

I was going to post this very one.

We used to enjoy McHard Road (used to be off of 288, south of the loop).

"Where did you take your date Friday night?" one of us would ask.

I'm sure you all can adopt a scottish accent and complete the dumb joke yerselves.

Here in SF, there are a bunch of planet streets. Uranus is a street that happens to be on a steep hill, so you can see where that goes also...
