Jaybird, 1st. I never said that Wilcox was a year older than Eddie I said that Eddie as a19 year old entering the NBA he was 220. Wilcox will be 20 when he enters the NBA and his weight is listed as 218. 2nd. I was replying to Pat who had this to say about Griffin, "Clearly he has huge upside, but till proven, it is only potential." That is his rational as to why we need Wilcox instead of letting Griffin handle the position. So clearly that leads this discussion that Wilcox is somehow more proven than Eddie. 3rd. Sure Wilcox was on a national champion but if that was all it took to have a major impact in this league then Bobby Hurley, Christian Leatner and Cherokee Parks would all be all star players right now and we would have never traded Micheal Dickerson for Steve Francis. If you want to compare individual achievements then here are some of Eddie Griffins as a freshman: Named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press. Voted Freshman of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association and The Sporting News. Became the first player in school history to be named Big East Conference Rookie of the Year. Also named to the All-Big East Second Team, NABC All-District 3 Team and the All-Metropolitan First Team. 4th. You say I am comparing apples to oranges when I compare Eddies college stats to Wilcox's college stats, well I agree with you. The stats I used were Eddies as an 18 year old freshman, the stats you use for Wilcox are of a 19 year old sophomore. I wonder what Eddie would have avg'd in college last year had he stayed in? 25 ppg 13 rpg and 6 bpg? I think we can both agree it would have been mind boggling. 5th. You want to talk about Griffins pre draft test but you failed to mention that Griffin dealing with his brothers death at this time last year and did not spend any time preparing. 6th. Kenny avg'd 14 ppg 7.2 rpg 1 bpg 1 spg 2 apg last year. Kenny may be a couple of inches shorter than Wilcox but he has a big body at about 250lbs. Kenny is also one of the quickest Power Forwards in the league. If Wilcox finds himself putting up those kinds of numbers in a few years considering his college numbers then I think we can say he is having a successful NBA career. So please explain why you think Wilcox could provide anything more for this team next year than either Griffin or Thomas. IMO Wilcox would be the fourth PF on this team next year if he were drafted by the Rockets. By picking Wilcox for anything other than to trade him to another team would be a waist of a draft pick.
This discussion is pointless. Wilcox will be taken higher than our 2nd draft pick. Moreover, you don't trade a proven commodity like KT and a pick for someone, who, well... may not ever be more effective than KT, and could be much less. Wilcox is a undersized, lacks a jump shot, and unlike Griffin, can't block shots. He brings nothing to the front court that isn't already there. Lots of risk (giving up a very serviceable PF), without much reward (Wilcox just doesn't have THAT much upside). And as for catering to Francis... he'll be happier on a winning team without his Maryland compatriots than on a team of dismal Terrapins that goes 20-62. If we did manage to move to #6, and Caron Butler slipped that far... my oh my... that'd be fantastic. (Caron can actually shoot)
