The thing about Maxwell is that the volatile nature that made him and the Rockets succeed was also his downfall. It is just the way it is. It's why he is Mad Max, and a good part of the reason we were back to back Champs. I don't hold anything against him.
Hey, riddle me this, tinman : If it was the 10 year anniversary of the Rockets' first championship, where would you go if you wanted to interview Vernon Maxwell? That's right... jail!! Because that's where he was celebrating it! Don't worry, I'm sure his teammates called him up.
Don't thank me, thank Max for transforming Choke City into Clutch City...thank Vernon for being the greatest clutch player in Rockets' history...thank him for his help in bringing this city multiple championships...thank him for the joy and happiness he brought you.
His ex-wife said it best : "He was a great basketball player," Jenkins said. "You can't take that away from him. But that doesn't make him a great person." tinman and creepy getting owned in this thread. You guys may not have your priorities right in life when it comes to Mad Max, but I'm sure you guys could put a pretty nifty picturebook together for us! Creepy, get out of the thread man, you just got obliterated and you're smarting... recover and come back.
The fact of the matter is that nobody affiliated with the Houston Rockets organization in any way, shape, or form has ever dissed Max and they've praised him instead, you haters are just gonna have to come to terms with that...there are many reasons those championship banners are hanging in the rafters of the Toyota Center, but one of the main reasons that they're their is Vernon Maxwell.
Dissing is a subjective term, but paying someone to leave the team because you are a cancer is "dissed" in my eyes. Rudy T. thought it was best for Maxwell to find another team.
what is a great person? a person free of problems? we're not getting owned, on the contrary, we're owning the haters. we're showing the nebie fans what an important person Max was to his team and the world. Ralph Sampson Lewis Loyld Mitch Wiggins John Lucas Rudy T Calvin Murphy Vernon Maxwell They are still heroes in my book. they hit some bumps in the road of life, but they will recover. don't know where I'm goin but I sure know where I've been hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday. An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time but here I go again, here I go again. Tho' I keep searching for an answer I never seem to find what I'm looking for. Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on 'cos I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams. Here I go again on my own goin' down the only road I've ever known. Like a drifter I was born to walk alone. An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time. Just another heart in need of rescue waiting on love's sweet charity an' I'm gonna hold on for the rest of my days 'cos I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams. Here I go again on my own goin' down the only road I've ever known. Like a hobo I was born to walk alone. An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time but here I go again, here I go again, here I go again, here I go. An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time. Here I go again on my own goin' down the only road I've ever known. Like a drifter I was born to walk alone 'cos I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams. Here I go again on my own goin' down the only road I've ever known. Like a drifter I was born to walk alone. An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time but here I go again, here I go again, here I go again, here I go, here I go again.
Rudy T thought it was best for Max to move on. There's no hate between Rudy and Vernon. http://www.houstonpress.com/Issues/1994-05-12/news/feature_full.html Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich is very close to Maxwell, mainly because their styles are so similar. As players, both were spot-up shooters and tough defenders. As people, both like to party. Their difference, Tomjanovich says when found unwinding from a Rockets win with a few tequila shots at a Greenway Plaza bar, is that Maxwell needs more "true" friends. A true friend, in Tomjanovich's eyes, is one who "if he thinks you should be doing more, he'll tell you." Tomjanovich recalls a lecture from a college buddy who fell into that true friend category. "Sure, you're pretty good, but ****, we're talking about being an All-American," the friend told him. The speech so moved Tomjanovich that he quit smoking and drinking. For a day, anyway. I'm glad Vernon found true friends..Kenny, Sam, Mario, Otis, Dream.
Hey were those pics of Herrera after Vernon "Everybody's Favorite Teammate Who Will Change Someday" Maxwell clocked him? You know... the event I told you about where Carl required 30 stitches to close a gash, but you choose to ignore because Maxwell will someday overcome his problems? It's funny how you choose to ignore how he attacked a fellow Rockets teammates so you can say "he was a great teammate". In some circles that's called HYPOCRISY! *cough* Norm Sloan, the Gators’ coach at the time, is no fan either. Sloan still suspects that Maxwell fixed a game after his star player failed to score a single basket in the second half of a two-point loss to the University of Tennessee. *cough*
who knows what they got into a fight for. Jason Kidd and Jim Jackson got into in Dallas over Toni Braxton. they battled, great boxers fight. Foreman and Ali respect each other after all the bad news and great fights they had. Teammates fight, tempers fly. They still came together and brought us a championship!
Name a few teammates Rudy has expressed hatred for openly. Yeah, love that line... he needs friends... it just ain't here, now git! Your defense by using Rudy's quote there is weak. I come back at you with the fact "he was booted off the team!" Don't come back at me with those weak defenses! BRING A MAN'S DEFENSE!!! Or are you being a Maxwellian player in this and ... choking.
If it wasn't for Maxwell and his heroics the Rockets would have 0 championships...Houston would still be a championshipless city known for choking and losing...he helped change all that...he turned Choke City into Clutch City...He helped put the Rockets in a position to win multiple championships and they did win multiple championships..His teammates have never badmouthed him...You all should remember this next time you haters insult him.
if I were a Maxwellian player, then i'd be making so much $$$$ in the nba because my defense, and heart and leadership would dominate. He got friends! Sam and Kenny and Mario! why dont you hate them for being his pals? its so great to know that Max called Sam and that Max is doing well. I know if you ever saw Max in public you'd probably wouldnt say anything to him. I'd thank him like I thanked Otis Thrope for the great memories and I would wish him the best in life! Maybe I'm one of the few people on this board who believe in the good of people.
