Saint Louis, I'm happy too. two years and two rings. greatest NBA memories of all time. Max is doing well. He even called his good pal SAM CASSELL for encouragement for game 6 vs Phoenix. Sam was excited and it was reported on NBA Shoutaround for the WORLD to see. Once again Max did it. He proved the haters wrong, Max and Sam are still friends and Clutch City bonds are stronger than steel! I like your Max story. Max was a charming dude, cant blame him for hitting on pretty girls. Bob Sura does that, but he wont get scorned by the haters on clutchfans cause he's white. i've met members of clutchcity also, and they were great guys, otis, horry, calvin, dream. i'd rather watch a rockets game with 1 true fan like you than a bunch of haters/fake fans. we can teach our children love and not hate and the world would be a better place!
Whenever I see this thread resurrect I think of this old Paul Simon song, Hes a one trick pony One trick is all that horse can do He does one trick only Its the principal source of his revenue And when he steps into the spotlight You can feel the heat of his heart Come rising through See how he dances See how he loops from side to side See how he prances The way his hooves just seem to glide Hes just a one trick pony (thats all he is)
When Maxwell called Sam I thought of great song too: Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure That's what friends are for For/In good times and/in bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for Well you came and opened me And now there's so much more I see And so by the way I thank you And then, for the times when we're apart Well then close your eyes and know These words are coming from my hearts And then if you can remember Keep smiling, keep shining Knowing you can always count on me, for sure That's what friends are for For/In good times and/in bad times I'll be on your side forever more That's what friends are for
Great memories. We get it. You love Mad Max (a VMOF for lack of a better term). You love the Rockets. We all do. It's just more platonic and less obsessive for most of us. Hell, I was a big OJ fan growing up...
OJ was a great running back. if he killed 10 more people, that doesnt change that he was a great running back.
I enjoyed OJ in Police Squad too. I think some people fail to realize that atheletes are human being too, with all the inherited flaws. Ty Cobb - a$$ Pete Rose - gambler Mickey Mantle - drunk Jimmy Foxx - drunk Babe Ruth - womanizing drunk Steve Howe - druggy Darryl Strawberry - druggy Black Soxes - sell outs Barry Bonds - doper (allegedly) Bobby Cox - wife beater John Rocker - idiot Ken Caminiti - pick your vice And that is just baseball players off the top of my head.
Not sure if anyone already brought this up...but I was just looking at the article right now and noticed this "1994: He pwned the NBA and was crowned a champion." made me fall off my seat and I couldn't stop laughing. Nothing wrong with Mad Max...I loved him the early years before he "disappeared", just thought it was funny to see on the Wiki.
Vernon Maxwell quit on his team, he was a great player for the Rockets, but the last thing he did for the team was quit on them. And nothing will change that. He was the greatest Rockets quitter. Even greater than Eddie Griffin!
= I was dreaming of the past and my heart was beating fast I began to lose control I began to lose control I didn't mean to hurt you I'm sorry that I made you cry Oh my I didn't want to hurt you I'm just a jealous guy I was feeling insecure You might not love me anymore I was shivering inside I was shivering inside Oh I didn't mean to hurt you I'm sorry that I made you cry Oh my I didn't want to hurt you I'm just a jealous guy I didn't mean to hurt you I'm sorry that I made you cry Oh my I didn't want to hurt you I'm just a jealous guy I was trying to catch your eyes I thought that you were trying to hide I was swallowing my pain I was swallowing my pain I didn't mean to hurt you I'm sorry that I made you cry Oh my I didn't want to hurt you I'm just a jealous guy watch out baby I'm just a jealous guy Look out baby I'm just a jealous guy Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one
the divorce rate in america is 50percent. So 50percent of americans are quiters. Maxwell didnt quit, he left. its not a divorce, it was ... a love affair.
Exactly and this is why any true Rockets' fan can relate to Mad Max, because he didn't have some media manufactured image as being a flawless and infallible person...He was human just like us except he had an extraordinary gift that helped bring this city two championships and for that we will always be indebted to Maxwell and the rest of the guys who made that happen. Nobody affliated with the Rockets organization has ever badmouthed him and he doesn't owe any of you haters anything. What a beautiful picture...I remember watching every game of that series as a little kid thanks to my Dad's friend, another true Rockets' fan, who taped every single game of this series...Boston sent Jerry Sichting to basically go out there and try and bait the Rockets into fights to weaken the team the same way Mitch Kupchak was used by the Lakers to try and frustrate Houston in the previous series and got Olajuwon ejected in game 5 when Ralph hit the Shot. This is how low the Celtics and Lakers of the 1980s had sunk to...they had to resort to sending out scrubs to try and fight our best players...I just wish Ralph had beat Sichting to a bloody pulp to give the Celtics' fans a real reason to boo him in game 6. I'm sure if Maxwell was on that 1986 team, he would've sacrificied himself by defending Dream and Ralph against Kupchak and Sichting the same way he came to Dream's defense and got ejected for him at the end of game 7 of the 1994 Western Conference Semis after Sir Charles fouled Dream in mid-air as he was putting the exclamation point on Clutch City. I wonder if anybody on the current team would come to Yao and T-Mac's defense the same way if somebody was playing dirty towards them. It's not about being obsessive, it's about coming to the defense of the greatest clutch player in Rocket's history...the man who helped Clutch City emerge...There are people on this site, a Houston Rockets fans' website, that continually diss him, which is pathetic. RocketsMac....Shokran ya akhee All us true Rockets' fans have to do is keep doing what we do and as Quint Black said Shake Dem Haters Off: http://www.lyricsstyle.com/q/quintblack/shakedemhatersoff.html
This thread like the priceless memories Maxwell provided all of us should never die. We should try and take all the positive posts in this thread and publish them so that if anybody ever tries to tarnish the image of this Houston Rockets legend, the Wikipedia War Thread will always be there to explain the truth.
Even a majority of the current Florida Gator's b-ball fans still recognize Vernon as the greatest Florida Gator basketball player of all time: http://mb21.scout.com/fufinsiderfrm11.showMessageRange?topicID=8860.topic&start=1&stop=20 Even the guy whose name my moniker is based on recognized Vernon for the true baller that he was and that's why Sleepy Floyd gladly gave his jersey # to Max when he joined the Rockets: Before Vernon arrived: After Vernon arrived:
Uhhhhh .....no. Sleepy's # was 21 with Golden State. When he was traded to us mid-season, World B. Free was #21, so Floyd took #11. During the offseason, W.B. Free retired and Floyd reclaimed his old #. Also, Vernon didn't join the Rockets till the season after Floyd took #21.
If the divorce rate is 50%, then 50% of Americans quit on their marriage. Period. just like Vernon Maxwell quit on his team... period... oh wait, no there's more... he also quit on : his wife.... his son.... paying his bills... paying child support... his college team...
A true fan would know this. Alas, fans of quitters don't know ****. I love the fact that people are trying to defend this quitter by comparing him to such great people as O.J., Ty Cobb, Darryl Strawberry and John Rocker!
this relates all to his gold diggin wife. vernon today would have hooked up with eva longoria or someone cool. i guess its all vernon's fault cause you were in the middle of his relationships maxwell built the university of florida. his karma led them to the championship this year. thats another championship you can trace back to max. vernon never quit on the rockets. in game 7 against the knicks, he hit the 3 that sealed houston's FIRST MAJOR Championship. He was mobbed by his teammates Mario and Kenny. What great friends and heroes.
