Yeah, but you have to remember it's so popular and not everyone is computer savvy. I understand that, but there are numerous ways to break into a secured WiFi. I meant good job by raising the awareness. I didn't know what SOPA was until yesterday. I'm not worried about cops banging on my door, but the headache of getting a letter in the mail saying I've been fined for piracy because I reset my factory router and forgot to secure it one time...I'm sure it would be a headache. I am not against this movement, but I prefer privacy, security, and a stable internet over these companies adding income to their bottom line. By raising the awareness the public's eye is now open. That's all I can ask for before this is passed. Damn you're a hater.
If that's how you feel, that's cool. I do advise to please watch this video if you please <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/31100268?byline=0&portrait=0" width="400" height="225" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/31100268">PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/fightforthefuture">Fight for the Future</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
Good video, thanks. Like I said, I am not against the idea of stopping piracy. This act can clean up a lot of piracy just by scaring people who pirate media once/if it is passed. However, I hate the idea of it crippling my internet experience. I prefer an alternative than giving one entity the power to control so much and say what's fly and what isn't. I doubt all piracy can be stopped, but just the passage of this act would boost the income of so many companies. The bad part is that it will certainly hinder my internet experience. How much is uncertain. The amount of control should be clearly stated in the act if it is passed.
I've been contacting my California Senators and representatives about this. I got the following stock reply from Senator Dianne Feinstein: The line that gets me is the one that I've bolded. Clearly she has no understanding of the wider ramifications of this bill, and of the ways it harms legitimate websites by proxy. It just makes me mad. The crazy thing is that because these senators are all older folks, and have aids that do such a large part of their work for them, many of them simply don't even understand what the internet is and does. To many of them it's an abstract idea rather than a reality. It's just yet another way in which these fat cats are failing to represent the common citizen.
http://megaupload.com/ They just shut it down again! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/JhwuXNv8fJM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/o0Wvn-9BXVc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I believe PIPA/SOPA is just a distraction from something bigger. 2012 is not the 'end of the world', but the government will take become more strict in enforcing laws and regulations and punishing criminals. I view most of these changes as citizens are guilty until proven innocent and not the other way around. Ex: you have to prove you are not a tax cheat*
If the allegations against MU are true that they paid a few users to host illegally obtained pirated works to drive traffic to MU, then that does warrant a shutdown imo.
So are they going to be taking down filesonic, filejungle, filefactory, 2shared, depositfiles, fileserve, rapidshare, hotfile, mediafire, hulkshare, uploadKing, uploadhere, wupload, etc and all the torrent/p2p sites too? If not, this didn't do sh-t. lol. Megaupload was one of many, many options. Reminds me of the total ineffectiveness of taking down other sites like Napster and Mininova proved to be. There's a lot of ligitimate businesses that use Megaupload that are going to be pissed though.
This case will be watched closely by many all over the world. Whatever is left of Megaupload after the feds are done with them will be noteworthy. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/01/19/megaupload-gets-shutdown-by-feds/ So they can just accuse them of condoning piracy because some of their MANY users use it to steal? $175 million in illegal ADVERTISING REVENUE???? What is this?
What's funny is that when peeps ask their congressmen/congresswomen to vote AGAINST the bill, but they don't... those congresspeeps will remain in office... or get re-elected... by the same people that wanted them to vote against these bills. There are? Like which ones? Examples?
Here is the link to the website showing the sellouts for SOPA http://projects.propublica.org/sopa/ If any of them are in your voting power give them a call.
