I sent mine too. I'm usually a lazy citizen, but on this issue and similar ones (e.g. net neutrality), it's important I use my puny and impotent voice as a constituent! Besides, if the internet gets crippled, it could have serious repercussions on my ability to be lazy! my letter: Spoiler [spoilered for D&D appropriate partisan attacks! yaay!]
1) wtf is sopa 2) that's stupid 3) you guys should protest wiki's protest edit: I support wiki in this movement, and anything that increases my online security or my option to have security. looks like Obama's going out with a bang.
^^^ Thank you for your insightful contribution to this thread, BEAT LA... Also, I take back my previous statement: I sent 2/3 of my meaningless emails. Sen. John Cornyn's contact form keeps requiring I fill in my last name... after I've already filled it in. Anyway, I can't find a way around it. Coincidence? I think not! Hmph... If anyone finds a way to submit the form, please do share... Or perhaps it's just my browser being buggy? I'm on Chrome.
Take the time to read this, it's worth it. The argument above regarding Etsy is arguably true for ClutchBBS as well - how many of the images or videos linked to here are technically "copyrighted"? Fair use DIES with this bill.
The analogy I liked best was that SOPA/PIPA is the equivalent of shutting down an entire bank and freezing the assets within for all account holders simply because one person's account used counterfeit funds. Huge overreach. The MPAA and RIAA need to learn to work with this new medium instead of stamping its feet and trying to collectively take everyone else's ball and go home.
Even that analogy is an overreach, as nobody outside of Hollywood Lobbying Firms would think posting a picture or quoting an article is anything but fair use. Of course, these are the same firms that have been fighting "fair use" ever since the invention of the VCR. It would be more like:
Oh, no... How am I going to win arguments on the Internet now? Also, I thought this was about some sort of SOUP... (must speak Spanish to get that one)
Anyone try contacting your representative(s)? John Culberson's site seems to be getting a lot of traffic...
