Everything you've ever thought about "rule of law" is a complete joke. Great Britain just violated international law in the extreme and raided the Ecuadorian embassy. link I'm at a loss for words, honestly. Shocked.
For comparison, in 1984 a british policewoman was shot and killed and the british still honored the diplomatic ground of the libyan embassy. Absolutely disturbing.
sorry p***y boy, trying to hide in the Ecuadorian embassy sounds like it ain't going to work. don't worry, we have a nice tropical paradise for you to enjoy near the warm waters of the Caribbean...
Did you uhhhhh.......actually read the "news piece" you linked to....... An actual raid and posturing are two different things.
Holy wow. The article I read specifically stated a raid had occurred. Twitter is indicating the same. wtf? EDIT: lol. looks like I got "CNN'd" by the Sydney Morning Herald. Regardless, this is absolutely insane. Yeah, I'm sure Britian is that worried about Assange's sexual encounters in Sweden. *sarcasm*
Note all the vigor Britain is applying to pursuing Assange and compare that to their reaction when Pinochet was holed up in the UK while under arrest for war crimes... ****ed up.
i doubt they go ahead and set the precedent for this, because they would have more to lose, worrying about any of their own hundreds of foreign posts worldwide being stormed one day as well
I think the people of the UK would react very badly if a raid took place. Btw there are 0 charges against him in Sweden. He is wanted for questioning only.
A raid of an embassy would be just wrong. Not as bad as holding employees of an embassy hostage or allowing a mob to attack an embassy, like it has happened in certain parts of the world, but still bad.
Seriously, guys. Britain isn't going to storm an embassy and risk a major diplomatic ****storm for Assange - under international law, storming an embassy=invading the country. The b*stard isn't worth it.
Not really. It's the fact the land down under had CIA ties that turned a consensual encounter in a sexually liberal climate into a "non consensual" one. Typical smear campaign. Pole, India is a commonwealth nation and they've demanded a number of terrorists be extradited to their land to be justly tried from the UK... so far only one of DaWood Ibrahim's low tier accomplices, tiger hanif, has had to face the heat. I wld think sovereignty and defending one's citizens trumps the intragovernmental concept of the Commonwealth.
A not so surprising tidbit from the press release: Ecuador offered for Assange to go to Stockholm tomorrow if there was no extradition to the US. Sweden refused.
Fantastic news. Ecuador is extremely gutsy. The president deserves a prize You can be sure at the minimum all sort of major economic threats have been made against Ecuador and we are going to start financing even more any sort of political opposition. This may be enough for the US to go into full coup mode. Maybe not with Obama, but with Romney and the neo-cons you betcha.
