My son was 1 of the lucky ones Sunday at TRU. They had 50 at the Florida Mall and he was number 22. He spent his $30 gift card on WII Play so he got a WII w/2 remotes and a few games for $340 including tax. I refused to pay the ebay price because it's folks like that that cause WIIs to be out at stores and to go for $75 over retail on ebay. Initial release hording and selling is one thing, but it's been 4 months and there are plenty of WIIs for sale, it's just that most of them are on ebay right now because of greedy people.

This weekend is Circuit City's turn - they are supposed to have a minimum of 10 per store available Sunday.

My other son is looking at the 360s and those are selling new below store prices. I'm not sure if those are stolen or scalpers taking a bath.

I agree about CoD. Really good game, I thought. And the rest were mostly rentals. That's what I'm saying, though; Zelda I consider to be an excellent game. A few of the others seem to be enjoyed, and a lot of people think Wii Sports is a blast. So, IMO, the Wii launch is just like some of the other launches.

Exactly. That stranglehold changes...some would say the Playstation brand had the third parties well under their banner. Now look what's happening. So it's not really the 'same old N'; if anything, they were their worst through the N64 generation.

It seems like their relationship with third parties improved through the GC era...but sales were the real killer there.

Yeah, 'too fast' might have been the wrong phrase to use considering the life cycle is about 5 years or so. Still, I think the changes can be fairly drastic.

But I agree, there's still plenty of fun to be had on the 'old' systems.

I think in the end the folks who designed the Wii are going to regret not putting more horsepower under the hood. Certainly seems like reliable cheap processors were available that would give the Wii a lot more punch. In a couple of years the weak processing power will really be obvious.

It's not really that much more powerful than a gamecube is it?

Btw ~ I still want to grab one -- some of my friends have been going nuts with the guitar hero and the Wii just kills that game. Great silly party game to break out at 3 AM. ;)

Which CC did you get yours from?

I finally got mine this weekend at CC! Also got COD3, which is fun but a little hard to control on the first try. Finally started to get it down, but by then I was pretty much seasick. :)

    Watch that auto-complete.

I surf the Web on my Wii, too, but I have had a few problems. Some Youtube videos will stop right in the middle of playing and reload.

Yep, and it didn't do anything. The only things you can use the USB ports for are the ethernet adapter and to charge a USB device.

I haven't had any Youtube problems yet. The browsers kinda clunky overall, but it's been functional.

I think the final version is scheduled for the end of April. Anyone who has the beta is supposed to get the final version free.
