This guy likes to say about " If "
So, Yao could easily reb for over 13 per game IF he focused much less on offense.
But a blue-collar center is not a franchise one, totally ignoring yao's outstanding offense ability and just valueing rebounds...please, give me a break

this totally shows you are a basketball layman.
You think rebound is all about one player's effort, ignoring the fact that it's a teamwork.
Look at rox's rebs place in the league, you should be ashamed if you are a really rox fan.

so, do you want to continue talking about why yao shouldn't/should be paid max or do you just want to throw insults at anything being said?

    a little confused here.

Even T-Mac is pretty damn good on defense when he is actually able to run around.

You really have watched rox games?

Ok, I'm sorry and apologize if my words make you feel insulted.
I love talking about this, but I don't think we will achive agreement here.
What you said really doesn't make any sense for me (Maybe mine means nothing to you either).

you throw KG, Dwight any big man with any atheltic ability in with this rockets team. they would be on of the best rebounders the league has seen in ages(actually since Hakeem!), because our perimeter defense is just that got damn good.

Dude, I agree with you here.
    KG is dreamlike
DH's reb ability is better than yao
But a top 1 reb team is not definitely a champion team
DH's offense is what he must improve.

    Agreed

So called YOF care nothing about the salary, they simply want Yao out of Houston.

it could be said that those are examples of bad contracts.
there are full of stupid GMs in NBA because they do not even know smart so-called rox fans could sign them with a 0 less easily.

    wrong!
YOF simply want Yao a ring, no matter in rocket red or laker purple.
then, they want Yao playing a major role, and earning respect, no matter where

salary is just a way to show the respect.

Yao will get the max from some team, no matter what.

If you eliminated the business side of things, which of course is unrealistic, I think max dollars would be better spent elsewhere (or distributed amongst multiple players). Yao's unbelievably high character and work ethic is admirable, but that can't override the other concerns:

    - He's had a season ending injury in 3 of 4 years, and he missed a huge chunk of the other year.
    - When his new deal starts, he'll be entering his 30s. Players of his size, historically, do not last long.
    - The rules do not favor his style of player.

But, again, the reality is he'll get max dollars.

okay, i am sick of all these contract talks. i think he has wore out his welcome in the city. i am excited for the off season. we will see what happens. i sure hope he does test the free agency. if he resigns, that's fine. if not, it's a fresh start.

as for the contract, you are signing a player based on the assumption that he will play the whole season. now, assume he is healthy, he sure deserves the max contract more than a lot of the players who are getting the max. if he gets injured, sucks for you.

if you only offer him part of the max, would you sit him out even though he is healthy for the whole season? it would only be fair to play half of the season if you only offerred him half of the max right?

the point is, you don't know what's going to happen. have to sign him to what he is worth, not what you think is going to happen (injury etc.).

Yeah, I think your view is more objective. Not like some clueless fans screaming 20+ teams will give him the Max contract or he will only get 8M or 9M, etc.

Bottom-line is it will be a tough decision for Rox brass. Contract will definitely be offered but length of the contract will be negotiated. Probably sth around 17, 18 million per year for 3 years will be fair to both parties, IMO.

Of course everyone is replaceable, but unless you can get someone better, you are taking a big step back. Championships are won with Top 10 players not role players. Replace him with a serviceable center and a 15 point/game perimeter player, we'd be the Chicago bulls, definitely not championship contenders.
