That depends on the relationship of the owner and the player. If the rumor is true, that Lesley Alexander once said "if you put 15 million dollars in front of a Chinese man, I don't think he won't sign", I don't think Yao Ming would lower his own salary just so Les can pocket it.

wade doesn't advance to the 2nd round, does that mean he is a lessor player compared to joe johnson?

i thought bball is a 5-man game, and i thought you knew that.

of course i would, knowing the results each year of their respective teams.

but why ask? the scenario only happens in fantasy world. in reality, it's meaningless.

Don't worry. Yao will get the MAX from either Rockets or the other teams, though Yao may not request the MAX so that the team can have the cap to sign other good players.
The GM and team owners are all smart people. They know Yao's true value depite his injury history.

I believe they will as well. (see my post earlier in the thread) But, it doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

max, schmax. the max only gets really big when the players have played for over 10 years, by then they're well past their peak. very few players get max contracts beyond 32 years old, i.e. Duncan. players like LeBron will have the benefit of their high school jump into the NBA, to get a 30 million dollar per year contract when he's 28 years old. until then, we have seen many 2nd and 3rd tier players get max or near max contracts, particularly big men. i think Yao will probably get an average salary of 20 million per year like Duncan instead of 25 million per year like Dwight Howard, who will probably opt out in 2012, sign a two year contract and get 30 million per year in 2014.

Not sure about Howard. CBA will be different by then.

Yao deserves MAX. This is not debatable. Even a fifth garder can figure it out. Not happy? Check your gene to see if Ur Alex related; If not, check your IQ.
The difference of a YOF and a true Rox fan is where he wants Yao to take the MAX. Happy with this?

So are you saying that Yao's "true" value is to Les' pockets and not to the team on the court? If thats the case, then I wouldn't want a player who is eating up that much cap space for that amount of time, on this roster. I only want players whose value is ON the court, especially those earning the max.

i doubt it's going to be worse for the players. the players already made the majority of the concessions the last two times. they're not going to decrease the percentage of the cap for the max salary at 35 percent. that's been the same for 10 years, soon to be 12 at the end of the current CBA. they're not going to decrease raises or maximum years again. that was a big concession. the biggest question mark is how much the salary cap rises in the next 5 years. will it be 65, 75 or even 80 million dollars, depending on the economy, and globalization of basketball.

A true Rockets fan would want Yao's contract to be small enough so that we can get some good guys around him. Period.

I don't understand how a non-YOF fan would benefit from Yao getting the max anyway.

You could want Les to open up his wallet, go over LT to achieve that too. Those extra money Yao made for him should be enough to get a couple good players.

After all, it's Les's team, not Yao's. Yao doesn't sign the check, nor does he deside which player to get.

You'd like every player on Rockets get league minum so they might even be able to afford Lebron James. But is it fair to those players? Have you ever seen a company reduce other manager's salary so they can hire one more manager?

If Yao decides he doesn't want MAX, it's great. But if he doesn't think so, and Les gives him MAX, that means Yao's worth it. Owners are not stupid.

After all it's Les's money and Les's organization, he pays the players, he takes the most profit, it only justified for him to go over LT if he is so eager to win. Mark Cuban has done it, Cleveland's owner is doing it, and Lakers soon will follow if they want to keep Odom next year.

It's not fair, but a true fan doesn't give a crap how much money Yao's making as long as it's not screwing the team over.

As you can tell from my name, I am Chinese but I'd feel no pride in Yao getting $20 million instead of $12 million. I'd feel more pride if the Rockets won a championship as a Rockets fan first. If it happens with Yao great, if not then it's not our loss.

Of course you don't give a crap, because it's not your money, otherwise I wouldn't expect to see you take a 40% pay reduction so easily.

But owner cares, Yao maybe cares.

So why should Yao sacrifice instead of owner after Yao already made him billions of extra money?

Right, what you say is true.

However, the point is, why should a Rockets fan care so much about whether or not Yao is being paid fairly as long as he plays hard. That's something for Yao and Yao's agent to worry about.

As long as he's not being paid too much where he's hurting the team's performance, then it's something that's not really the fan's business.

How much was Ben Wallace getting paid?

    Yao - 16.37

those are estimates based on what is left on their contracts (aka higher than they should be, since most contracts start smaller)
