Why would Minnesota trade Kevin Love for Parsons, Lin, and a late first round pick?

if Love doesn't want to be here, then there is no point in trading for him :(

That was our biggest competition. Paves the way for Houston.

Can someone please explain the angle here? How does the Livingston signing make a GSW - Love trade less probable?

I don't think it makes much difference in their 'chase for Love'.

    Love + Martin = $22.509mill

Warriors just have to exceed that amount by $1 to make the trade happen, right?

    Lee + Thompson + Speights = $23.1mill

Still quite easy for them to make the deal happen

I'm still in awe of Golden State keeping Klay Thompson over Kevin Love. Truly hilarious.

It simply means they can't take on more salary then they send in return. So Minny has to 'wear' more salary (in year 1) in any pending trade.

I think it makes very very little difference at all (see above).

Or maybe they are just 'talking up their asset'?

OR maybe Minny think they can get a better deal, and so aren't interested in receiving Thompson in return

OR maybe Minny has already been offered a better deal, have told the Warriors they aren't interested in Klay, and the Warriors have then come out with the 'we're not sure we'd trade Klay for Love' angle, so that they don't seem like the ones who got jilted?

Or maybe the trade will go through anyway, and it's all some senseless posturing between execs?

Thanks. Found it hard to believe the Warriors would sabotage their chance at Love to sign Livingston, turns out they didn't.

I believe Golden state had a sizeable traded player exception that they can no longer use. If so, this is a pretty big deal.

If the warriors could get that deal even if they had to include their 2015 1st rounder, they'd be fools not to IMO.

That deal does nothing to help make Minnesota a playoff contender so they can retain Rubio long term.

    Here's another idea:

3 Way Trade: Houston, Minnesota, and New Orleans

Houston Out: Asik, TJones, DMo, Canaan, Rights to Sergio Llull, Rights to Papanikolaou, Rockets 2015 #1, 2015 NYK 2nd Round Pick
    Houston In: Kevin Love

Minnesota In: Ryan Anderson, TJones, Rights to Sergio Llull, NOP 2015 #1, Rockets 2015 #1
    Minnesota Out: Kevin Love

New Orleans In: Asik, DMo, Canaan, Rights to Papanikolaou, NYK 2015 2nd round pick
New Orleans Out: Ryan Anderson, NOP #1

Now compare our offer to Golden State's for Love:

    David Lee
    Klay Thompson
    GSW 2015 1st round pick

    vs.

    Ryan Anderson
    TJones
    Rights to Sergio Llull
    NOP 2015 #1 pick
    Rockets 2015 #1 pick

Minny doesn't shed any salary in this deal. That could be an important factor.

As Fullcourt mentioned Minny would want to dump salary somewhere. Try including Lin and have us take back some salary from Minny.

    Why

Even for a one year rental? Unless Love agrees to re sign then it is a gamble to trade any assets with Minn. Same with the Rockets. If we make a huge trade and include Parsons and Love walks after next year we lose him and Parsons.
