Manny, there is one word in that article you seem to be refusing to understand: fictional. Eminem has also killed Dre in his songs, should we label him a murderer for both fictional acts??

I guess we can throw Metallica into the same woman hating category as Eminem because Lars sings about burning his mother alive.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with some of the things Eminem raps/sings about, but I do like some of his music and the fact that he doesn't hold back and his style which is true street poetry, not the re-recycled cars, hoes and money rhymes so many other artists call rap music.

    Pimp,

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I know it is fictional, but your original question was phrased like "what made anyone think that he would hit a woman?" Most people, with the exception of his family, only know Eminem through his lyrics. That's not fair, but it doesn't seem like he cares about it. If anything, I think he thrives on the attention (which reminds me..this is the last that I want to discuss him because I don't think he is worth discussing this much already).

But, his ex-wife who is named, convienently enough "Kim", had a problem with the song that Knicks thinks is so great in Kim, didn't she?? Maybe that song was a little too close to reality to her, who knows?? But, it literally appalls me that he would write a song in which he would brag about killing his own mother. But I guess I would be biased against matricide, fictional or real, since I'm closer to my mother then anyone else in the whole world.

I know that other artists have had questionable lyrics like he has, but with the exception of a couple, they don't always keep showing up in the press.

I will have to give him credit, though. He knows how to play this image for all its worth, and with him being white in a predominantly black genre, that adds even more to his appeal, IMO.

Please quote me on when I ever said Eminem or Creed were legendary musicians.

    The idea is laughable.

I simply happen to enjoy their music very very very much.

And I guess its my opinion that when you listen to certain bands, don't worry about the band itself, just listen to the music. I think Scott Stapp is kind of a douchebag. But I love the songs man, the songs. D-Load 'Sister' by Creed. Awesome track.

there is way too much concern on this board over this "objective" standard for whether or not certain music is good...and whether or not it's timeless..

who the hell cares?? do you like it?? great! listen to it!! listen to it for as long as you like!! for as many years as you like!!! it's so stinking subjective...so based in personal tastes...and particularly with music, so locked up in how you identify with it..who you shared it with...memories of the song...how the lyrics meet you personally, etc.

    Well said.
I read over and over around here about how "pathetic" Creed and bands that are similiar to them are.. Well...as far as I'm concerned, someone must like em..there are pretty popular right now.
I honestly cant say I mind, I would rather have some guitar-based bands that try to play rock at the top of the charts than have to hear about how some rap group/artist is at the top.

I'll gladly admit it, I don't change the channel when I hear Creed, Default, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Nickelback or any other band like that come on. They at least seem to attempt to play something resembling real rock.

but in the end, none of these new artists/bands hold a candle to real metal/hard rock. but just try to hear any of that on the radio these days.

    Let the flaming begin. :p

    Nomar,

Read this part of my post again, especially what is italicized.

Note that your name only came up because I was addressing part of that post to you. It never was said by me that you felt that Creed and Eminem were legendary musicians. It was said that I get pissed when I read people (unfortunately, there are other Creed and Eminem fans out there:p ) that say these things. But starting out a post with mother****ers like you first did in this thread doesn't help.;)

For anyone to think Moby will be remembered longer than Eminem (especially in the US) is pretty laughable. While I think Eminem's career peaked last night (it seems that for the first time last night people actually got tired of his act), but I still think he has a few moderately successful albums in him, but nothing as successful as his past three (especially the last two).

Go ahead and laugh all you want.

But I have no doubt that "Play" will still be regarded as a classic CD and Eminem's stuff will be looked at with curiosity.

Hey, we can all talk about this 10 years from now, can't we?? I mean, I know, that I will still be here!

BTW - I will save this post just for you, SCF, as we wait out those 10 years.:p

BTW, here is Moby's response on his website...He's been really tame about the whole eminem thing since he first heard the song:

Check out the journal entries on his website...he has hardly said a word about Em since the cd came out...

    Just my opinion...

i think it all boils down to the fact that M&M is rap, he has to project a "hard, tough, take no ****" attitude to be accepted by his peers. he needs someone to pick on to create controversary. M&M is a rap bully who needs to pick on people to be "tough" and have something to rap about.

moby is techno/electronica, there's no "toughness" among his peers. they just make music. not very much controversary in electronica.

I don't think it has anything to do with talent cause both are talented in their own ways. Neither will be remembered in a hundred years.

That VMAs show was so horrible and embarrassing to watch. I couldn't even leave it on that channel for more than two seconds. They should cancel that whole MTV awards spec-crapular. I thought Jimmy Falon stunk. Sure, his intro was okay because he does have musical talent but he really stunk after that. Funny about MJ accepting some "musician of the universe award" that didn't exist. Brittany said it to be nice, MJ...get a grip...it was your birthday...not bow down to MJ day. MTV even went on record post-awards news saying there is no such award. Then, MJ gets up there like he's accepting an award. He looked absolutely horrible as well. The Olson twins were a complete joke with their pubescent comments which ended with something like "...deal with that, America". ****ing Guns and Roses playing two very old hits with only one original member. Give me a break, please. Take your Paradise City and cram it up your collective rosy asses.

As far as Eminem, he showed just how much of an immature punk-ass biyatch that he is. Sure, he has talent. He also has a big talent for coming across as an ******* everywhere he goes.

I just think that show gets worse and worse every year. I'm sorry I even watched any of it at all.

Looking back, I guarantee you that no one will give a **** about Moby, and they will still talk about Eminem. He's just that kind of person.

That is your opinion, Knicks and as that saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. :) My opinion is that Eminem will be looked at like Los Del Rio of the Macarena fame. People will say, "9 million plus people bought this ****??"

Have you ever heard of a band named King Crimson??

I doubt you have. But this album, In the Court of the Crimson King, is still considered today to be a classic album of music.

No one probably, in your words, gives a **** about King Crimson the band, but that album is a different story. I feel the same will be true with "Play" but only time will tell if that is the case.

Oh and HEAD hit the nail on the head about the image of rappers, etc.
