For the record, most of those $300 and up purses are hideous and I wouldn't be caught dead with one. As for shoes, I do have an obsession but I can survive by just looking at all the pretty shoes, I don't have to buy them (I'm happy with flip flops and chucks) But I agree with finalsbound, one thing I do splurge on is makeup and bath products. so not all women are crazy shopaholics!
I think men a as likely to spend the same amount of money on HDTV, computers, GPS systems, cell phones, video games, MP3 players and etc..... And don't forget the amount of coin gear heads spend on cars.
I was going to stay out of this conversation but... We have a very firm mattress because our original memory foam topper got destroyed by one of the kids so we've been wanting a new one. Tonight my wife said she was going to go get one so i gave her $100 in cash I just received from a friend who lost some football bets the last few weeks. I told her not to spend more than that because we just paid bills and we are working on a Christmas budget. I knew the last topper we had was $75 so she had a few extra bucks to spend. When she got home I was helping her unload and there were a bunch of bags of stuff. Inside there was 2 christmas books, a DVD box set of christmas movies and other assorted junk which she wrote a check for... $88. This was over the $100 I in cash I had given her...
My wife buys tons of stuff. The UPS guy comes to our door at least twice a week. My 3 year old daughter has probably 20 pairs of shoes alone. Lets just say, that my wife made over 1K on ebay selling my daughters used clothes from last "season". Then there are those 150 dollar jeans. How in the hell are any jeans worth $150. Fortunately for me, my wife makes enough money to cover it (well at least most of it). She still drives me nuts sometimes. But in the end, almost anything is cheaper than a divorce and child support. It also helps that I think my wife is crazy hot.
Not to over-analyze, but you'd actually consider divorcing and leaving your daughter because of this??
It's what I always say to my friends when they complain about their wives spending too much. Its also what I will say to my wife when I buy a new Yamaha R1 when I have my mid-life crisis. I would never divorce my wife unless she cheated on me. She's my soulmate and I think she's crazy hot even after 10 years of marriage.
LOL. You caught me. Nah, there is a difference in being a guy and gay. I'm not interested in that stuff. A fine woman is all I hope for.
My personal experience seems to mirror that of A-Train's idea. My girlfriend has to go to the mall basically every week. But she rarely spends much money there, and she only buys things I find pointless(but she pays, so I'm wasting my time rather than money). I can go months without spending any money on more than bare necessities, but anything I do buy, it's almost always at least three figures. Which is a good thing I don't buy stuff often.
My gf isn't really high maintenance at all so I like it. I don't have to spend much on her unless it's her bday or vday.. our anniversary is coming up next month.. so maybe that too. Other than that, I spend money on her food when we go out.. but that's about it. Or movies. She likes to drop me hints of some stuff she wants but I just ack stoopid
Ok, the expensive I've went was a $150 dress and on shoes, I usually spend $50-$100 per pair shoes. Other than that, I spend within my budget. I spurge on makeup and shoes.
My ex was kinda corny about her hints. First she told me while I was watching tv what she wanted. In exact detail. Then, she printed it out from the coach website. Then she told our mutual friends that she wanted a specific coach purse. Dropping subtle hints is fine, but letting the whole damn world know you want a purse from coach is another. I ended up getting the purse, and then breaking up with her 2 weeks later. (didn't help she got me a god awful shirt from abercrombie, and I hate that place) /end bitter ex gf rant
My wife is going to have to change her ways because January 1 we begin "The Total Money Makeover" and our quest to be debt free. Wish me luck.
We just got out of debt this month, not using a cc in 7 years. Then we had to buy a car in the same week cause the wife's wouldn't get out of the driveway. Oh well...
