I was a 1999'er without a registered name yet. Funny, I hesitated for the longest time thinking, "I just wanna read the posts, I don't wanna post myself." But I finally caved in. Then for the first year or so, I was posting at a ridiculous pace. Then at some point I got a job that made me work while I was there.
It sucks to have a job that actually asks you to work. You can tell many posters here have jobs that don't need to work. It sort of matches the general work ethics of the NBA.
good to see a post from grandpa Behad btw what the hell ever happened to DeanBCurtis, the smoothest poster I have ever met good times yall, thanks for posting the pic, now that the wife is back at work and the my daughter is now 9 months old, we are already starting to save for another SMeg World Tour
If you are flamingdts, don't ask me why I am bringing this thread up again, but I would like to add RM95 and Major to your list. I believe they are both 1999ers (pre) and still post. ... and I can't believe you left Jeff off of here.
I think most of us were here before 1999 and had to re-register when Clutch changed BBS formats. It would be interesting if we had an accurate number as to when people actually signed up.... pre Feb 99. DD
Hey buddy. You have no excuse. You signed up 1 month after Feb and you still manage to have 20x my posts. You snooze, you lose. No double digit club for you!
I can't remember all the address changes. It seems like all the old ones would just forward to the new one. Click new bookmark, delete the old... the site goes on. You make it sound like clutch threatened at some point.
Threatened? Not quite the connotation I was going for. Back in the day though he put up an announcement that Clutchcity.com would be no more after a certain period of time and kind of left us hanging on whether it was just something like a name change or if the site was actually going away altogether. Can't remember how long it was until he actually told us that it was just a name change, though it seems like it was around a month or so. The time I'm thinking of also may be one of the other name changes.
I know that I found this site and joined in the summer of 99. It was the first time I had regular access to the internet. I believe I had to re-register shortly thereafter from the Frank Swindle thing.
I was working in the UK during the change over on Starlancer, so missed the sign up in Feb. I have been here since '97 or '98.....some of us are trend setters others are just jumping on board. Still others are jealous..... DD
Same here. Im not sure exactly when it was. It could have been 97 or 98. I do remember when Will and Turbo were the big guys and Jenna was queen of the BBS as the time. Im sure she is still lurking.

I was following the site in it's nascent stages back in 96 and the Barkley trade. I didn't start following the Forums until the failed Damon Stoudamire trade, and didn't start posting until after that. Man, if only that Stoudamire trade went down. I know it would have been treason to trade away Super Mario, then-mascot of the site, but Ellie and Willis plus trash for the young Stoudamire & Walt Williams plus trash would have been a major major steal and turned that nightmare injury-riddled season around. Back then we still had no zone D allowed and Walt and Stoud would have rained down the threes with Barkley & Hakeem in the post. Sigh.
I think you are remembering it incorrectly. If I remember it right, Clutchcity.com was a domain that should have belonged to Clutch, but his former business partner (?) Frank Swindle, who was the domain administrator, took control of it and used it to try and start up a competing site under the rivals.com umbrella. Needless to say that that was a miserable failure. Clutch re-started the site at clutchcity.NET. Later, I think the Rockets tried to claim that they owned the rights to the term "clutchcity" and Clutch avoided a legal battle (with the team that should be thankful to him, imo!) by moving to "clutchFANS.net". That's just my recollection of what happened, someone correct me if I am wrong. And I have probably pointed it out in this thread before, but I have been here since at least 1997 or 1998. I had another user name before, but because Internet message boards were new to me, I thought it was ok to act silly and cause the host stress. I think this is why I only registered later with the new name at the new board - I had waited a while and then asked Clutch if he would let me in again which he graciously did. Now I try to only act silly within certain boundaries and am proud to say I have been suspension-free for almost 10 years .
