Flynn cant beat anyone off the dribble, im watching the game last night in garbage time, and not only does Flynn just dribble the ball mindlessly around the court, he passes up open shots, and he makes dumb passes. He is also very slow.

Kevin McHale is too attached to this guy. We should trade him for a future 2nd rounder, just release him

I also dont understand them keeping Jeff Adrein over Greg Smith. Adrein is a bum, while Greg Smith(who has drawn comparisons to the late Waymon Tisdale is only 20 years old, and is just a little raw, and probably should have stayed in school to improve his draft stock)

In his defense he is not slow, and it was GARBAGE time, he was trying to throw an alley to Thabeet for **** sake.

I'm guessing we released Lin because of cap flexibility reasons. Flynn has a team option next year, so theoretically we could trade him to another team as an expiring contract.

Lin is now a Knick. There is no sense in crying over spilt milk. I think Lin was a better long-term player than Flynn, but Flynn, because of his contract, has more immediate "value," i.e. a better asset.

Because Flynn is a former #6 pick who might theoretically have more trade value to a team that believes they can take him on as a reclamation project. That's it. No one on this board is hoping Flynn starts for us because if that happens then we really are tanking.

But at the same time Lin fans need to get over themselves. What is his ceiling? What could he possibly become that would make us regret waiving him? What could he possibly give to our team that Dragic as our backup point is not already doing? He's not going to turn into Steve Nash. He never was a pure point even in college; scoring was his forte and he did it in the IVY LEAGUE. He might become a serviceable rotation player some time down the line, but how on earth is that something that the Rockets will end up missing?

Please take the Lin stuff elsewhere, I wanna focus on THESE Rockets now. Frankly, politics is the only reason people are still bringing him up anymore.

Really, I liked Lin better than Flynn myself but people need to get over themselves. We are talking about a 3rd string PG here.

Flynn is yesteryear's Kemba Walker. If he were given the green light to do whatever he wanted to do on offense, you would get pretty similar results to what Kemba is doing in Charlotte.
The reason why Flynn is not doing so hot is because he is trying to be a traditional PG when that is not his strong suit. Free Twil? I say if Flynn can get "freed" he will be much better than the scrub we've been seeing.

This is sickening , Flynn is a tremendous athlete who just needs some playing time.

Flynn's ceiling good starting point guard.

Lin's ceiling good backup point guard.

Thabeet over Greg Smith, really? Thabeet and Flynn are "assets" b/c of their contracts. They could pull some dead wieght off a team a clean up their books at the same time; for say a high first round pick in a loaded draft.

    just a thought

That is not true at all. Flynn has shown nothing special in Minn, and has shown just about as much with us.

Lin actually has had some glimpses of good court vision and scoring around the rim (not sure about his shooting). The biggest difference is, Lin plays defense and has good size for a PG. And he plays like he understands the game.

I'd say Lin is the better player at this point. The real question is, does he have a higher ceiling than Dragic. I am not sure of the answer.

But all these are moot because of the contract situations. It's just the reality. The better players don't always make more money or are given better chances to succeed.

Taking on Flynns contract was the only way to rid the Rockets of Brad Miller. The Rockets actually saved money and moved up in the draft to get Donatas M.

Lin had a NON guaranteed contract and Flynns contract was guaranteed. Lin knew he wouldn't be able to make the roster because of contracts already on the books as did the Rockets but taking him for the preseason helped out both parties. The Rockets got a much needed training camp body, potential backup if Gasol trade went through, and Lin had a good chance to auditon for a team like New York who eventually picked him up anyways.
