RM95,

I lived and died with the Oilers, I rooted for them from 1972 until the time they left.

I then rooted for the Titans...but slowly my allegience died...I still care for the Titans, but I no longer care enough to follow them closely.

The Texans are a curiosity, I like them a bit because they are in Houston, and that is my hometown...but really, I have no NFL team.

Well, that is not true...I root for any team the Cowboys are playing.

    :)

I would hardly call any of that bandwagon fandom.

Heck, that is proof by my presence here daily.

Freak, I guess I'm pretty close to where your at as well. I bled Columbia Blue. And I've always hated the Cowboys. I was stoked when the Texans beat Dallas, But I'm ALWAYS stoked when Dallas gets beat. I've felt like I was wandering in the NFL wilderness since the Oilers left. I can completely relate to what DaDakota said about getting your Sunday's back.

It's really weird. I WANT to be a Texans fan. I'm a Houston homer and make no apologies. Maybe living in Austin gives me a different perspective, but I'm having a hard time. I need to see a game in the new stadium. That might help.

But I've got to say one thing more... I HATE the name! The TEXANS?? Uh, if you were born and raised here, you live here, what's so special about that? Duh, I know I'm a Texan. Couldn't they come up with something original? McNair had to ask the Hunts if it would be OK with them to use it. Arrgh! It doesn't exactly role off the tongue now, does it? Am I the only person who hates it? (I'm sure there was a 3 page thread somewhere debating the new name, but I must have missed it)

I would have preferred something as goofy as "The Jupiters". At least it sounds "spacey". Something somehow relating to the city. And I went to games with my Dad when they were in the AFL and won the first 2 championships, so cut me some slack. Geez.

ummm....the countdown to kickoff show was 3 hours long for the oilers, too. it's the same format with the same hosts...just on a different station now. an all-sports radio station that naturally spends a lot of time on the Texans, anyway.

I'm not saying you're on it yet. :)

However, when they're a Super Bowl contending team and not just a curiosity to you, that's when you'll jump on the bandwagon. Might as well start now! :)

Hey I never said i don't consider myself a texans fan...

i've followed them closely this year, as closely as I do the Titans.

I've watched every one of their games.

the problem is I just don't feel the same passion as I do with the Titans/Oilers.

I have no feelings when watching the Texans. When they beat Dallas, it felt great b/c I hate the cowboys

when they lost to the colts, eagles, and chargers I wasn't happy, but I didn't feel very upset. I have no emotional attachment to the texans.

however, watching the raiders kill the titans was like tearing out my heart. plus seeing the titans comeback in week 1 against the eagles put me on a high that maybe only illegal substances are supposed to give! :D

i guess it will just take time, history, heartbreak, and big wins to give me some emotional attachment to the Texans.

I'm talking about TV, not radio. The Oilers didn't get any pre-game tv shows, much less multi-hour ones, to my knowledge.

I'm guessing Cleveland did the same thing.

Its not that odd that you guys not living in Houston have a hard time connecting. If San Antonio suddenly got a team, I doubt I'd really give a rat's ass. Same goes for any city outside the state.

Those of us that live here have been seeing the whole process step by step. And we've been wanting a team back for a long time. I don't care about the Titans. Different team, different name, different city. Its like one player was traded - only, it was more than just one player.

I remember the Oilers. While they were the Oilers. The Oilers ceased to exist when there was no team in Houston.
