I'm not sure what caused it but I do remember Bob Sura and Steve Francis having some words during a game and had to be separated.

Tremendous intensity, that guy is fearless for his size (like Steve Nash), strong offensive skills, and intelligence.

He brought us wins, when he played we won. But besides that

He was fearless and wouldn't back down.. I remember He dislocated two fingers, popped them back in place on his own while on the court, taped it up after the time out and came back to the game to record a triple double not to mention blocking the dude who dislocated his fingers.(points/rebounds/assists)

That bold statement tells exactly what Sura brought us, people complained that he didn't pass to Yao enough and that was the only knock anyone ever mentioned on Sura.. THE ONLY KNOCK, you just couldn't complain.

when he entered games his presence was felt, he wasn't a star but you felt his presence like you feel Yaos and Tmacs presence when they enter games, you just could feel him on court while watching.. and the players he played with felt his presence too and since he is all guts and glory the team followed with his passion.. He stepped everyones game up

He is like a monster energy drink, you find four sleepy people.. you give them the moster energy drink (sura) and the next thing you know is they are awake and working away.. The team played with playoff energy when he was on court, always.

We always referred to our team with confidence when we would say to rival fans "Oh yeah? We got T-Mac/Yao/ and Sura"

Sura was a tenacious competitor who didn't back down from anybody and left everything on the court. He was a very good rebounder for a guard.

At the same time, Sura's legend here is way overblown. Following up Tyronn Lue and Charlie Ward at PG made him seem all-world. He was not a very good post passer to Yao. His handles were shaky. It was painful watching him bring the ball up against pressure (his natural position was SG, not PG).

More than anything, he helped instill a nastiness on the team that we haven't had since. He was our "enforcer". Nobody who saw it will forget his throw down of Josh Howard in the playoffs after Howard's bad foul on Yao.

JEFF VAN GUNDY. Should this name be mentioned with Bob Sura? I'm going against common belief by saying that JVG brought out the best of Bobby, in contrast to the popular impression that JVG ruins players' potential. The stuff the Van Gundy preached, like effort and toughness, especially on the defensive end, somehow fit Sura's style very well. I remember before when Sura's reputation was as an undisciplined player that couldn't play either guard positions well. All of a sudden on the Rockets with two superstars Yao and Tmac, Sura fit right in perfectly. That couldn't just happen automatically; there's definitely a coach's effort behind it.

I would like to know how many people on this board feel that it has been too much of a tall order for the Rockets to replace Bob Sura after he got seriously injured prior to the start of the 2005-06 season?

It sure seems like it's been too much of a tall order to me since all of the other guards the team has tried hasn't worked out well enough in replacing him.

Who is saying he was great?

He was a SOLID all around player. Too bad he couldn't stay healthy.

One time while sparring with Wolverine, Bob Sura accidentally lost his left testicle. You might be familiar with it to this very day by its technical term: Jupiter.

He had a dogged determination. You may be more talented and more skilled but no one got more out of their ability IMO of recent than Sura. He would fight you like a bulldog for everything for the WHOLE game. He never took a second off. He was/is a definte factor if he could overcome his series of injuries, he would've absolutely led us to the promised land last year. He's just that good. Loved the guy just sucks his career apparently got cut short. :(

I think it's basically his heart and hustles. which this Rox team seems to lack.
On the other hand, I don't think he is a "good" PG because of his liability to pass and not so decent shooting. ;)
