what do kobe and wade have in common in getting their titles ? shaquille o'neal the heat are in last place in the east right now since shaqs decline and injury. wade isnt leading this team anywhere. kobe hasnt gotten passed the first round since shaq left, so you tell me who was more instrumental in those championships. shaq has already proved he can win without kobe and wade. they need him more than he has needed them and thats the truth.

So the Rox beat Toronto and everything is suppose to be good? I mean i didn't play at yao's level, i did play college ball. What does that mean? Many will say nothing, but as a student of the game you can throw out all the stats you want. Yao is not a great post player. You know what a great post player does regardless of who is playing? If you double wrong or late it doesn't matter. If you double with a small guy it doesn't matter. In the 4th qt he can demand the ball, receive it and make a play either for him or his teammate. If duncan gets the ball 8ft from the basket, the ball isn't coming out, its too late. If you send a little guy from the opposite side and he turns away, its over. When the game is on the line he gets stronger, demands more attention and makes it happen. duncan never was a great athelete, but he played bigger and out quicked some of his more atheletic conterparts. You cant ever put yao and duncan in the same sentence. For all those that talk about tracy not being a leader or no heart. How can a team with darrell armstrong,pat garrity, a rookie in gooden, gordan girichek, mike doleac, even make it to the playoffs. How come the rox can trade 3/5 of the starting lineup off a 45 win team win 6 more games and make itto the playoffs? How can a team with Rafer alston,Shane battier,Tracy mcGrady, Juwan Howard and Mutombo win 22 out of 34 games if tracy is so heartless?
If we can't get anywhere near equal value for Tmac we may need to look at trading the other superstar who other teams actually want and would be willing to actually give something up for. Just a thought.

A little playoff success would go a long way towards quieting the critics. I think as it stands now T-Mac is the only scoring champion in NBA history never to make it out of the first round.
But even when he got help, Jordan carried that team to all 6 titles. Some players are better at carrying their team to wins and titles better then others. MJ, Tim, and Hakeem have done it. Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Yao and Tracy haven't.
I agree with you. But we both know that theres no way in hell Les is going to trade the cash cow that is Yao Ming... People that think we don't need Mcgrady or are better off w/o him obviously don't know there basketball or are just YOF... But we're not going anywhere w/o Yao either. We might win more games with Tmac (and Yao out) but w/o them both, we're not making any noise in the playoffs. I honestly feel that at best we're a 50--55 win team - even after we adjust to Adelmans offense. We're not at the level of a San Antonio or even PhX.

Yes I can.... Duncan is one of the 3 best players in the game. Its no surprise that either him and Shaq have won all but one title since 2000. He carries the rest of the SPURS and makes them better. Centerpoint of the defense etc.... Yao doesn't carry the rockets.... Tmac does that. How can you compare Tim Duncan (the greatest PF of all time) to a guy who isn't even the best player on his own team? Don't get me wrong, I love Yao for all that he does and his heart and passion that he brings to the game. But i'm not foolish enough to start comparing him to the greatest in the game. ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Put Yao on those San Antonio teams and I dare say they'd have less (-4) banners in the rafters. TD > Yao
So i guess a coach has to tell you to be great? being great and being a leader are 2 seperate issues. Great players are great because they know they're great. Some players that are great don't have to be great leaders. When you're great, teammates follow. You dont have to say a word. you dont have to give speeches and talk to the media. Go out and dominate, period! If yao goes out and dominates everyone he plays against, the other teammates and guys in the league will see that. When you come out and get taken out of the game by 6'8 guys, teammates question that. Maybe thats why people are so frustrated by tracy. Tracy has shown to be great and dominate the game with or without yao and win. He's never won a ring, but that deosn't mean he didn't show greatness. none of the great players had to wait for a guy to retire or the coach to call them in the office and tell them to be great. i don't know if its cultural or whatever, but greatness always rise to the top.

Tim Duncan is actually a horrible athlete. He's a good player, but he's not great. He's good cause he got the fundamentals down, he played with good team mates from starters to bench, and he has a good coach that's able to win. If we trade every scrub (including Rick Adelman) on the Rockets except for Yao to the Spurs for everyone (including Greg Popovich) except for Tim Duncan, we'll have 6 championship rings already!!

Yao's problem is that he was born about 15 years too late. In the 90's, could you build around a player like Yao? Yes. In 2008, could you build around Yao? No. Hate the game, not the player.
Let's get one thing straight: Back then the defensive rules favor the big men by not allowing double or triple teaming before catching the ball. If Yao played in the 90's, he would've been 10 times as unstoppable as now ... just imagine if they can only guard Yao from behind one on one right now .... people need to get hoops educated.
