Why the hell did we get rid of Isaiah Canaan again?

In hindsight it could be deemed a bad move. Howard is on the cusp of leaving. We did make the WCF last season, but like most clutchfans members would agree that doesn't even matter anymore. Marcus isn't great but he could have added some stability we needed at the 4 while looking for other options instead of Howard.

We played our best basketball as a unit when Canaan was running with the starters and draining 3's.

Canaan is the 6 foot version of Harden. Just a one man wrecking ball. We essentially replaced him with Terry, an older, slower version of canaan's skill set, only canaan seeks contract like harden does while Terry avoids it.

Canaan has nba game and in the right situation could out up a 50 spot. He's a scoring point guard.....period.

Mchale put him in the doghouse. Plus his ankle injury was worse than it was.

The answer is still "Because he's not a good basketball player."

Harden can finish at the rim. Canaan can't.

We are still talking about this scrub? He hasn't done jack since he left us, despite playing solid minutes on a very bad team. At least Lin has produced in Charlotte on a competitive team.

LOL... sure.... he's a slightly shorter version of James Harden the top 10 player.... Except he cant -

    -Get to the rim
    -Dribble penetrate
    -distribute the ball
    -hit step back 2's
    -hit step back 3's
    -draw fouls
    -run an NBA offense

    ........

I do actually think that Canaan was good for the Rockets offense, but it was strictly as a spot up shooter. I've (unfortunately) watched alot of Philly bball the past two years and Canaan still can't do anything other than shoot open shots. That's why they had to spend to go get Ish Smith who looked like prime Steve Nash compared to Canaan as the primary PG on the ball. Canaan is born to be an off-the-ball PG in the likeness of Eddie House, or a poor man's Steve Kerr, etc.

There is nothing wrong with that FYI. He's going to have a long NBA career if he can shoot the ball consistently like he did when he played next to Harden for that short stint.

The Rockets traded him because they likely wanted more though. They still tried to go big with Lawson, and I'm sure will try again to upgrade. So while Canaan could have, and could still help, lets not act like we gave up a superstar or anything.

You know who also was coined "a smaller version of Harden"??... Non other than Ty Lawson. I'm fine with re-acquiring him, but his expectations should be nothing more than hitting wide open 3's.

I remember Canaan could hit step backs, but generally speaking, he was just another shooting, scoring PG.

Cannot defend, cannot create, overall awareness is poor. Can't even start for one of the worst teams in the history of sports. Less than 3 assists per 36 minutes.

Why the hell does anyone not want to get rid of him?

Canaan wasn't a very good player when he was here and we got a good return on him. Despite that, we should stop thinking about players as though they are what they are and can't be developed. If that's what player development is telling us we should keep an eye on player development personnel.

We have pretty a poor track record for player development... but Player Development Jeebus isn't going to fix Canaan's problems lol
