Well yes it became a never ending tit-for-tat between Mugabe and the bankers/multi-nationals which ended up in him essentially seizing the mines. And I was aware that since then China has been working deals with Mugabe, but I don't know so much about China and the other countries in the region or even Africa on the whole. In your last paragraph when you say the western world doesn't pay much attention to what goes on there you are referring to only Zimbabwe or Africa? Because as I currently see it, western world companies currently dominate much of the continent - from Nigerian/Angolan/Cameroon oil, to Ivory Coast cocoa, myriad mining activities in nearly every sub-Saharan country as well as a few actually in the Sahara, the list goes on and on and on. There is a reason why by 1860 western powers had already divided up and colonized every inch of Africa (except Ethiopia. And through the banking cartels and multi-nationals such as Cargill, Royal Dutch Shell, Anglo-American Mining, etc they really never left.
Nothing wrong with China growing at all, but they really need to do a better job of thinking about the planet, because they are not just pissing in their own sand box..... The pollution problem over there is terrible.....and it is getting worse. And yes, I acknowlege that the USA needs to do a better job as well...ELECT AL GORE ! DD
I was interested in yout topic initially, but it turns out that you are a raging racist douchebag, syin1. Please go jump in the spike-filled-pit-of-irony and stop posting.
First off Syin have you considered that raging bile filled comments like your's might be the reason why you get the impression people don't like China? I mean if you are representative of Chinese I wouldn't like China and heck I'm ethnically Chinese. I agree with mostly with Pirc1 that there is some animosity regarding lingering Cold War fears that were stoked about the PRC for decades. In addition to the lingering fears I believe there are also some who long for a new cold war. Also given the rapid rise of Chinese economic power its natural that people concerned about US economic uncertainity would look at the PRC as being not just a rival but as a potential cause of that uncertainty. Its the same way that economic uncertainty in the 1980's fueled animosity of the Japanese. Unfortunately most people don't understand how trade can build capital and also its easier to blame an external force for economic problems than considering what's wrong with your own economy. Animosity though is a two way street and there is some level of mutual distrust that feeds animosity. From the PRC point of view China almost 200 years has been occupied and exploited by foreigners and things like the Opium War and spheres of influence are still in Chinese consciousness. at the same time things like the bombing of the PRC embassy in Belgrade haven't helped along with the current Admin.'s assertion of US hegemonic power. One more issue that is causing animosity is the nationalism on both sides. The impression I get from the PRC and many Chinese is that the PRC is now a superpower but doesn't get the respect it deserves as a superpower. IMO that leads to a particular belligerence on the part of many Chinese when it comes to criticizing anything having to do with the PRC whether it be Tibet or Yao's playing time. At the same time 9/11 caused most Americans to embrace a nationalistic response to an external threat. So in a time when Americans realized that they were under threat the response was to reassert both US military power and also American values. Animosity between the US and the PRC has to do with longstanding historical positions, economic competition and resurgent nationalism but even without those I think it is part of human nature to be tribal and to seek out rivalry.
Sure it does. Used to the USSR. Now it seems like any news about China is negative these days. US just want an enermy and someone which it can blame for all the wrongs in this country.
In my opinion, after reading his/her/it's second post, this person isn't even Chinese or a Chinese-American (or whatever the PC term might be). I think he's having a laugh. The Trader_J of Sino/American BS, if you will. My first reaction was sympathy for a person so clearly deranged, but reflection has given me a different opinion. Impeach Bush. Eat Vietnamese!
all NEWS, period, is negative! war, deaths, market recessions, housing crisis, global warming, child molestors, murders, etc, etc. stop being so damn sensitive people. Do yourself a favor and dont even bother watching the news
i don't think he is too much off at all. his reaction is probably due to nationalism, which i can relate totally. there are a lot of people out there that absolutely do not want china keep going on. i don't blame them. racism, jealousy are part of human nature. goes both ways. there are enough crazy people here anyways.
It's called Freedom of the Press, guaranteed by a little document called the bill of rights. You're from a Communist country so I know it is not something you are used to.
well, i certainly understand how he feels. if all the people around you talk crap about you almost all the time, i'm sure you would get frustrated. and i don't think i'm racist. but, it's hard to get away from it in US due to multi-racial makeup. i was just saying, if anyone denies racism exist, then they are just blind. it's not going away, just don't advocate it. keep it at minimum. i think the process of eliminating racism will create/fuel racism anyways.
LOL who is talking crap about Chinese all the time? Hilarious. Here's a question for you: How would whitey be treated in China if they decided to move there and live? Think they would be welcomed with open arms?
That's fresh. Maybe you can also tell me what Civil Rights movement was still fussing about, some 160 years after the Bill of Rights had been ratified and 100 years after the slavery was abolished. As a liberal you know full well the press in this country is largely controlled by media conglomerate, don't you? China is a Communist country? You sure about that? I mean if conservatives have learned to deal with reality in world affairs, why can't liberals move on?
