The reasons why so many people hate YAO are : 1. He looks ugly 2. He is not America but Chinese 3. He is tall but stupid 4. He plays ugly 5. He makes some local superstars uncomfortable. 6. No matter how good he is, just hate him........ 7. ... 8. .... 9. ...... Unlimited reasons.....
It's his game. They just don't like his game. Yao does not play the center position the way the so-called basketball "purists" like - i.e. in the classical back-to-the-basket manner ala Hakeem & Shaq. He plays the position in a more international style which is understandable because that's where he learned how to play. In fact, that's one of my major gripes about what JVG & Ewing have done to his game. When he first came into the league, he had a very nice game where he would face the basket and hit the mid-range jumpshot. Both Ewing & JVG have worked hard to turn him into more of a back-to-the-basket player. Well now we can see that this style has allowed the opposing team to swarm around him when he's camped out in the post with his back to the basket. If Yao were allowed to face the hoop and shoot more, that would screw up the majority of the defenses teams are throwing at the Rockets. Think about how much more dangerous a 7-6 center would be if he was out there facing the basket and shooting over the opposing center/forward who's guarding him.
Right, this criticism of Yao will vanish once he puts that first championship ring on his finger and starts up his very own "bling" collection.
Sorry, I thought this was funny. It's like saying, "white country music lovers." or "middle-eastern terrorists." You know, it seemed Kenny was more positive about Yao when everyone else dogged him more in the last couple of years. I just think some of his (and Charles') takes on Yao are funny. Kenny last week talked about how he should make others better or other players should have career years playing with you like Kobe, Penny and Wade have all had their best seasons playing with Shaq. If I remember correctly, Penny was still a hell of a player after Shaq but only got hurt, Kobe certainly hasn't slowed down in the last few years, and Wade was only in hs second season when Shaq arrived, had a damn good rookie campaign and was going to be a great player regardless. Plus they talked about him putting up just numbers without dominating. Obviously they do not watch any Rocket games because Yao has been absolutely dominating on both ends of the court in some game.
I dont get how he gives Yao no credit for shooting 87 percent from the line because he is a professional and simply it is from repetition. Funny how he didnt mention Shaq or Ben Wallace being horrific from the line. Shouldnt they put the same effort as Yao cuz it simply is about repetition not about Yao's shooting skills. As for your comments about Shaq and the last 10 years, I agree completely. Shaq is the most dominant center of all time. However at this time, he is no longer the best center in the NBA. Yao is far more skilled then him and far more effective in games. Im so tired off all this dominant talk. Points are points. I just wonder if Barkley considered himself to be a dominant player. Barkley kept mentioning that Yao wasnt dominant cuz his teammates are not having career years. Who playing with Lebron is having a breakout season, yet there is not talk of his dominance. Who playing with Barkley ever had a monster season that was attributed to Barkley's play. Same goes with Reggie Miller. I just think its funny they bash him for not bringing a championship to Houston even though he has the same number of rings in his 5 years as they had in their combined 40 years.
Kenny Smith was possibly the worst color guy I have ever listened to. He was not bad, he was HORRID. And, he certainly does not give Yao any respect...even though he won a championship playing with Hakeem who had about the same numbers as Yao does this year. Which begs the question, why can't Yao get any respect....he is a MONSTER, but he is not demonstrative. I love Yao Ming.....but only in a very manly way ! DD
Here's a theory: KS likes little people. Yao is not little. KS doesn't like Yao. Wasn't KS the one that changed his score in the dunk contest so Nate could rob AI of the trophy? And from what I've read, he was anti-Yao and pro-Nate when commentating the Hou/NY game, so I dunno... The only time I really like listening to KS on TNT is when he makes fun of Barkley
Give it a rest. Part of the job of Kenny and Chuck is to provoke discussions among the viewers and give the fans something to talk about. They are just doing their jobs.
Would it be very boring to the viewers if they just keep repeating that Yao is the best center in the league now? Everyone knows that already so why would they need to listen to what they say on TV? They are supposed to say something controversial. Everyone loved the Chuck kissed donkey a** show. Chuck has done a great job, at least to TNT. I'd say they are very successful because now there is even a thread here dedicated to what Kenny has said on one show. This kind of response is exactly what they want. They are just doing their jobs and they are doing it well.
Kenny doesn't want the Rockets or Yao to succeed so he can be part of the greatest Rockets team in history.
Smith was riding Nate's jock like crazy. He bashed VSpan hard when he came in. He said that there was no way that VSpan could guard Nate. Then the other announcer stated that VSpan dropped a 20 spot on the US team. Kenny Smith then said I dont care how many WBC championships he has , there is no way he could guard Nate. Correct me if Im wrong but Greece hasnt won the WBC, have they? Kenny Smith = second biggest moron on TV after Sir Charles.
They are all racist..most of them....stereotypes exist because it means the Majority thinks that way...the majority of black anaylyst don't respect Yao..and thats only because he isn't a Thug like his counterparts....not ony the analysts, but Shaq himself is racist after those comments he made aobut Yao a few years ago....people just take advanatge of and pick on people that are nice and laid back....if you act like a Punk, you get more respect..thats how the League is and thats why I respect Yao even more for the way he is...he doens't cave in and act like a Jerk to fit in....
What's on your mind? Most American like Yao because he is a real role model for kids. That's why they will keep vote him in as an all star (pls, don't give me the chinese fans vote him in sh*t, cuz thats getting old). Only those who think they own the bball world and who enjoy gangster culture hate Yao. The funny thing is those tend to be the ones who cry racism constantly ...
Yao deserves his all-star spot - no one disputes that. I don't think anyone "hates" Yao - there are some people who don't like his game, and don't think he's better then Shaq, and they are entitled to their opinion. But you shouldn't call them racists just because they disagree with you.
Shaq is absolutely amazing... and yet it took him 8 seasons to get a ring. Yao will definitely have a ring in less than 8 seasons. Hopefully 5. And he will still not get any respect... But who cares, we will be NBA Champions!!!
I agree with the post. Not just Kenny Smith, Reggie Miller and Charles Barkely don't seem to appreciate Yao's work as a center. They may say Shaq is a better center than Yao overall, not right now though. Just look how many games Shaq has been missing after being a Heat. He can't dominate the game like before. Not anymore, but Yao can. Just ask those stupid TNT so called "Analspecialists" one simple Yes-or-No question: Would you trade Shaq for Yao now? Or ask Pat Railey better yet. Reggie(him or the others) said Yao did got the better of Shaq in Miami, but he claimed that it was not fair to Shaq cuz he was injured. BS! Injury is part of the game. If he was not ready, don't play him. Yao was not 100% neither cuz his arm was cut by the injured. Who cares if Yao is better than Shaq. Just admit that we are a heck of team. Championship, baby!
