Take it easy.. KS was in New York not in Houston. He is the person making Barkley kiss something... His negative comments on Yao may be good for Yao, at least Yao has room to grow, which is scary: A team with a 7-4 will do even better with Yao's growth. Criticism is not necessorily a bad thing.
Wilbon is an well educated person. Most of these other announcers only got into college because of basketball.
I said "some" Rockets, like Kenny and Charles. You know, it was really clear what I meant, why say something smart about it, really unnessary? This isn't a contest about who can have the "cutest" retort. Perhaps some Rockets didn't leave on the best of terms, pretty common around the league.
Why? Kenny Smith is an idiot, that's why. I never really had listened to Kenny talk about the league much until I bought my satellite radio and *TRIED* to listen to his show. He loves hearing himself talk almost as much as Steven A Smith. His radio show is nothing more than constant contradiction and random lashings-out at other players. Half the time I swear he doesn't even know he's on the air. The man brings tears to my eyes when I watch Double Clutch, but he makes we want to gnaw my arm off if I have to hear him talk otherwise.
I'm not going to say its downright racism against Asians... but if Yao was from here, had an american accent, cracked jokes with Kenny and Charles as comtemporaries, fit in with the american "culture" of excess, consumption (stats), and indulgence (ego)... Yao would fit-in with the NBA groupies. Think of Yao like the kid at school with different clothes, a different haircut, wears glasses, doesn't know any of the latest tv shows or music that all the other kids are listening to... the kid just doesn't fit in. But, he still happens to be just as good at things like basketball, video games, or whatever else the "cool kids" are doing. Its not racism... but its something.
Kenny Smith had this bet with ass-kisser Barkley on TV. In this case, Kenny Smith is no better than Barkley. Underestimating someone is something but degrading someone on TV publicly is another. I don't like the way both of them treated Yao Ming before. i want to hear to-the-point, clear, objective analysis from sports commentators. Not racist remarks. Not play on words.
I guess Kenny has forgotten when the Rockets and Hakeem beat the Orlando Magic 4-0 in the finals for an NBA title. And, oh yeah, the Magic's center was some slouch named Shaq who was schooled by Hakeem.
Yao, McGrady, and Battier have a reputation of being squeeky clean. You know that no self respecting NBA personality can associate themselves with guys without street credebility. After all, like JVG said, it's always been fun to hate on the Rockets. Ever since the Hakeem Olajawon days. Kenny Smith should remember that. Kenny is just a talking head. He's trying to kiss up to the getto side of the NBA Hoops world!
I suspect the same thing. Considering how CD handled player in recent years (Swift, Anderson, Noris, and Dream), I pretty much believe KS hates Rockets.
Um there are lots of players that AVERAGE Double-Doubles also, but that doesn't have anything to do what what he said.
So what you are saying is... blacks can't be racists? Can Asians, Hispanics, etc? Or is that only possible if one is white? I'm confused about how it is ridiculous to imply racism from any community about another community.
In Charles' case, I know that is correct. he admitted on tnt that he agreed to sign a one year deal in order to help the team sign Pippen. Les apparently offered to pay Chuck something like 12 mill the next season. When the time came, Les lowballed him, and gave him 8 million. Combine that with the fact that Charles' did not like the way Rudy was pushed out. Every time his name comes up, Chuck says something like, 'it's a shame they stabbed Rudy in the back like that." Not sure on Kenny though. Hate by osmosis?
