Why so much hate from Kenny Smith?

I am starting to wonder about the resentment some ex-Rockets have for the Rocket's organization. They are negative about all things Rockets. Something is up with this, it must go deeper than the analysis of a particular player. You would think Kenny and Charles were shorted a check or something.

If those so-called analysts can't get the simple logic right, they shouldn't be "analyzing" anything.

To say that Yao isn't the best center NOW, because Shaq was the dominant force in the PAST 10 years and won titles BEFORE, is like saying that nobody can be called dominant after Wilt, and no MVP should be voted after MJ.

We are talking about whether Yao is the best center in the league NOW, at this moment, not in the history.

Give credit where credit is due, is really difficult for people with inferior complex. Yeah, shooting 87% at free throw line is no biggie for a center because he's professional. There was exactly 0 center shooting FT at a higher percentage.

A mediocre player even in his prime, never appreciated who got him the ring, tried to act like somebody with superior basketball knowledge and skills, and diss on his old team, that's quite pathetic.

I agree, Aside from basketball. Shaq is a very powerful man, wealth-wise and media-influence wise, he is so powerful that it becomes a unwritten rule for black commentators to kiss his ass whenever they talk about him. they are just scared, and they dont even realize they are scared, to be the 1st one to not kiss shaq's ass and break that unwritten rule.

Lighten up fellas. Kenny Smith was doing the Knicks broadcast -- if he went on about how much better Yao is than the Knicks, this would be the last time the Knicks ever let him broadcast.

Kenny has given Yao plenty of praise in the past. He's the one who made Barkley kiss the donkey when Yao scored 30!

Besides, Kenny played with Dream, and I think he just has super high expectations for a "dominant" big man. Yao is good, but he is not (yet) dominating the way Dream did. Dream went out and won the '94 championship with no other star to help him. Nobody else on that Rocket team, Kenny included, has ever tried to take credit for that victory.

So what Kenny is saying is, essentially, "Yao, you have TMac! How can you not be winning more?" I think that's a pretty fair question, which will be answered when we take the trophy in June.

But then why do other ex-players like Drexler and Elie work for the Rockets? And Horry usually gives props to the Rockets, though usually it's about Hakeem.

Your right, Clyde, Bull and Mario hate the organization that's why they all work on the broadcast team.

That's BS. Shaq WAS the best in the league at his time. No one is mentioning him along the all-time greats by saying he is the best center in the league this season.

Shaq was my favorite center when he came into the league

but...umm how many years did it take Shaq to win a title?

thats a cop out to bring in Championship years into a argument who is playing better now...

like saying any center in the NBA was still better then Shaq...at the time...because they won a Champinship...

Shaq was the best... but it still took him jumping ship and leaving Orlando...

to go play with the best guard in the league... and the best Coach to finally win it...

we all must have been blinded... because we all knew he did alot of offensive fouls... the Ref giving that lame excuse why he so big so it was so hard to call him....

but we eat it up... considered him the most dominant from day 1

even after Hakeem schooled his a$$ in their playoff series..

see.. but even that is stupid logic. So I guess Barkley and Malone/Stockton, shouldn't ever be at the top of those lists either.

Yeah, and his comment was directed towards how much the other centers suck and how they have no excuse for not shooting well at the line. He never said, "Yao doesn't make other players better" but it's a valid point that Shaq has went to the finals with 3 different teams. His point was, Shaq has 4 rings, so when you take his entire career into perspective, Yao isn't in the conversation. We have to remember, Shaq won a ring, Yao hasn't made it out of the first round. People who say Yao is more dominant are making a different argument those who say Sha

People who say Yao is more dominant are making a different argument those who say Shaq is better. Yao is better 1-on-1 and puts up better numbers. But Shaq's presence allowed D wade to take over and win that finals last year.

Kenny's criticism went both ways, he talked a lot about Jamal Crawford's poor shot selection, Eddy Curry's bad defense. Lighten up guys, he made valid points.

Yeah, something is DEFINITELY wrong here. There is a great deal of animus toward the Rockets' organization from former players. Maybe it has something to do with the way Rudy T got "pushed" out of the organization.

I watch alot of Knicks coverage with Kenny Smith, and he is just doing what analysts do..

when he is with TNT, he goes out of his way to shower the Rockets with praise...

he always finds a way to mention the glory days, especially with Charles in the room...

I honestly dont see where any of the complaints are coming from... I watched the entire game recap(KNicks in 60) and Kenny's analysis was spot on...

kenny is tough on yao, he says on his sirius show that yao has to prove himself for the whole season. says yao always had skills but still questions his 'toughness'.

kenny also brags about himself, we all know he wasnt that good. when he interviewed shawn livingston he was talking about how kenny was breaking sam into the league when sam was a rookie. like how sam is breaking shawn in now. but we all know that Sam was way better than kenny.

He did especially about TMac's play. What Yao has to start doing more is to take it to the hoop more physically. For a man his size, he uses too much finesse when shooting and this gets him hacked and blocked (like that block by Robinson). He needs to act like he's going to rip that rim off the backboard and steamroll anyone who gets in his way. He starts attacking the rim with extreme prejudice and you won't see all of the tick-tac fouls he's getting now.

I dont think Kenny hates Yao or Tmac or the Rockets. He just hangs out too much with Chuck and his intelligence has dropped to another level. He couldnt even come up with original joke, and had to use Barkley's bullet proof joke to prove his point about Tmac's situation. So I dont blame Kenny, but I blame Chucky instead.
