Oh, you want to actually think? OK, let's do that. The only team Dwight has shown a willingness to be traded to is the Brooklyn Nets. They're on the verge of trading for Joe Johnson (and maybe Luis Scola) in addition to re-signing Deron Williams, thereby crushing any cap room for next summer. Unless you think Dwight would turn down $108 million with the Rockets for a $3 million exception deal in Brooklyn, the obvious conclusion is that it's a bluff and he's full of it. That enough thinking for you?
Ok think about this when Dwight complains and moans about the Rockets..I bet you will be the first person saying trade him he's a cancer...but you guys are obsessed with him because he's a superstar and completely ignore his attitude towards Houston...If you don't wanna be in my city I don't want you here.
I'm just as down on Dwight's stubborn refusal to play anywhere but Brooklyn as the next guy BUT he's a top 5 player in the NBA. If you guys want to be contenders immediately(I know I do) - he is worth taking the risk on. People around here seem to forget Dwight is up there with Lebron, Durant, Derrick Rose, and Chris Paul as young guys who can carry a team. Dwight can close the lane, gobble up all the boards, and get points in the paint like no one else in the league. You take a chance on guys like that because frankly everyone else is a consolation prize. Yes, he does not want to play in Houston but if traded we could offer him more money, and make him the center of the team on a large(albeit not glamorous) market with inroads to a global fan base. Brooklyn wants Dwight too but they seem to be squandering their chances and the latest rumors seem to suggest they want to compete NOW to keep Deron rather than a year from now. That tells me there is pressure to move forward without Dwight. If Brooklyn takes themselves out of the Dwight hunt by committing to more long term contracts or if Deron goes to Dallas, I think Houston immediately makes the deal because. a.) they can offer more money long term, and b.) the teams with cap space next year are limited and don't represent better cities than Houston ...when you think about it, the odds are relatively slim that a.) Dwight will walk away from all the money Houston could offer in Fa next year b.) Deron would be willing to sign a long term contract and play on a gutted Brooklyn team for another year c.) Billy King won't do anything else stupid between now and next year
I wouldn't mind this trade. See if Orlando would take Leuer over Motie, since Leuer has proven he can play already.
How many teams are interested in a Howard rental? 1 maybe 2? We don't need to outbid ourselves. Lowry, Martin, Patterson, Morris, Scola... pick 4 of the 5. No bad contracts in return. That's it. If the Lakers are offering Bynum then we are out no matter who's in the package from us. So if the Lakers aren't offering something we can't beat, why offer anything that's better than nothing? If Howard walks, then we didn't lose that much and have cap space.
Nope, sure won't. I'd rather have a team with star players, some of which don't initially like Houston, and contend for titles, than have a bunch of mediocre-at-best "good guys" who unconditionally love the organization and city. Controversy comes with the territory of marquee NBA players. Either deal with it, or give up trying to contend in Houston. I'd rather the former.
If Morey does trade for Howard, i'm hoping it would be Lowry, Martin, Patterson, Morris, and Jones. Roster would be somewhat like... Dragic Lee/Lamb Parsons/White Scola/Motiejunas Dwight/Asik Me likey.
@daldridgetnt: Not that they were ever in it, but...Warriors acknowledge they're out of DH12 hunt, per SHC: http://t.co/kUQS06Pf It's becoming more and more inevitable now.
Lol @ people pretending they wouldn't be ecstatic about Dwight joining the Rox. If we can retain Lamb, then they can have whoever else they want. A Dwight, Asik, and whatever # of PF's are left would be our best frontcourt since Hakeem's prime. I don't care if it's for just one year(maybe not, but worst case scenario.) it's better than twiddling our thumbs with Kyle Lowry leading us to the 14th pick. Ya'll are acting like we are breaking down the core of a championship contender.
@daldridgetnt: Here's the link to earlier post indicating Orlando had no interest in current Nets offer for DH12: http://t.co/IhqNp4tU. JJ deal seals that. Orlando trade partners: Warriors (OUT) Nets (OUT) Like i said, it's basically down to 2 teams.. Lakers - If they make Bynum available. Which is highly unlikely since Dwight won't commit and given the fact that Bynum can also do the same thing to the Magic once his contact is up next season. Rockets - If Daryl Morey still wants Dwight.. He will get Dwight. No other team will give Orlando a better package than Lowry, Martin and two to three young talents without a commitment. This is it guys, place your orders for those season tickets to watch a Dwight Howard led 2012-2013 Rockets season campaign.
I'd love to have Howard at the Rockets but have little faith after all the big names we have chased over the last 3 seasons. Surely if a trade does happen it will be nixed due to 'basketball reasons'
Maybe morey believes in the end of the Mayan calendar? So this is the last year of the nba. Go all in.
I'll tell you this.. When all is said and done.. We will have Dwight or Bynum this season. Write.that.down.
