He can be worse by hogging the ball and bogging down the offense even worse than it has been bogged down so far. If we do trade for Walker, I'd rather just cut him and give the reins over to Spoon and Padge for the rest of the season. Then after the season, buyout the remaining PFs that we have (Spoon and Howard I guess would be left) and go after Swift and Bobby Simmons to solidify our lineup. If our pfs can be bought out for about half or 60% of their value, then we should have enough to give out two decent sized contracts. So we could field a lineup of: Sura / Barrett / Ward T-Mac / JJ / Sura Simmons / JJ Swift / Padge / Maybe Badinae Yao / Minimum Pickup or Deke if he has another year in him That would be my dream scenario. Not totally unrealistic, but still a tad bit farfetched, so whatever.
You can't just "buy out" contracts and have the money come off the cap. If you cut the player the CAP DOLLAR still stays on the cap. Hell Mutombo's 14M cap number is still on the Nets cap. If people could buy out people and have the money come off the cap then they would be doing that right and left. Why even have a cap in that case.
Swift and Simmons would be nice. Get a guy like Wilcox as backup...Jimmy backup nice...with Boki takin over eventually. Actually Simmons missed a lot the game against the Rockets...Q. Richardson ..lol what a wish..
This is one of the worst ideas I've heard in a while. He's selfish, is in love with a shot he's terrible at, can't play defense, teaches other players bad habits, and doesn't take care of his body. Walker is one of the worst players in the NBA in overall contribution to a team. In Boston, he hurt the team as often as not. Horrible, terrible, very bad idea.
The only way this buyout would work is if the player is willing to give up 40% portions of his salary. If I'm guaranteed 30 million, very rarely (Shaw kemp comes to mind) do I buy out for anything significantly less. Players only agree to buy outs if they think they can sign with another team to make up or surpass the difference. So the likelyhood of us buyingout our PF for something less is very very slim.
True, but you never know. Seems like buyouts are happening more and more frequently. Spoon would probably be easier to buyout since he'd be in the final year of his contract, and then maybe he can get a multi-year deal somewhere else (Chris Mullin?). If we tried to buyout Howard it would be a pretty big financial compromise on both sides. The rockets would be paying him for nothing, and Howard might not want to risk trying to land another deal. Then again, Walker for Mo in the first place probably isn't going to happen, so I'm really just brainstorming here anyway.
