Why not go for Antoine Walker?

He is just as soft as Mo and jacks up more shots than Kobe...great mix.

walker sucks but his contract is expiring so it would be an awesome trade for the rokcets getting out from under mo's contract

Because we need a Roc in the Paint, not another out side shooting has been.

I want inside dominance, nothing more, nothing less.

First, I'm not sure how much value an expiring contract has when no one has a clue what cap levels the next CBA is going to contain.

Secondly, here is what the Rockets have committed for 2005-06:

    TMac - 15,964,250
    Juwan - 5,940,000
    Yao - 5,590,455
    JJ - 2,700,000
    Gaines - 1,296,800
    Sura + Ward - 5,500,000 (estimated)
    Total = 36,991,505

IIRC, the current cap is somewhere around $44m. Extending the current CBA leaves us a whopping $7m to fill out the roster. To get that $7m, we'd have to renounce both Walker and Nachbar plus the MLE. Re-signing either Walker or Boki eats into the $7m.

If ya'all think we're a $7m signing and a bunch of vet minimums away for the WC Finals, we'll have to agree to disgree. But IMHO the cold hard fact is that as long as we have both TMac and Yao, we are never going to be players in the FA market.

If we make a trade, let's get a player or players that fill needs. The Bucks are still paying Anthony Mason...I'd trade Mo and a protected first for Mason's contract (the Bucks may avoid the LT, not 100% sure), Dan Gadzuric (currently 15th in DRebs/48m & 10th in blocks/48min) and Micheal Redd.

    Walker? Hopefully never.

You make a good point and then suggest the Rockets trade Mo and a 1st and get Redd??? PLUS more? Redd could net them something worth keeping if they really think they won't keep him after this year.

I dont like Walker or Robinson. But the fact they are at the end of their contracts? Sign me up for those trades! Anything to get Taylor's contract off the books is good as far as I am concerned.

After seeing your response to my JVG-EG comment in another thread, I'm coming to the conclusion that you have a problem with reading comprehension. Or subtle references at a minimum.

First, almost every thread you read about upgrading our PF situation involves a player who's on every teams' radar. That's why you try to find players like Gadzuric as he's still relatively obscure.

Secondly, Redd has a Player Option for 2005 and it's not very likely the Bucks will be able to keep him. The Bucks have almost the reverse situation from Houston...lots of perimeter players and little low post presence. Van Horn, Desmond Mason, TJ Ford & Mo Williams combine for $27m of the Bucks' 2005 committed.

Bottomline is that if the Bucks re-sign Redd to his market value, they may have all of their cap $ tied up in all perimeter players + Joe Smith. Redd is a SF/SG in a league filled with SF/SG's. While Redd is more valuable than Taylor, Taylor and a pick comes closer to addressing what the Bucks need personnel wise.

GATER, i agree. With Tmac and Yao this team isnt going to be a major FA player in terms of being UNDER the cap. With that in mind we need to spend money and BUILD assets. We need to use the MLE wisely to get SOLID players, not trash like Charlie Ward. We need young, solid contributors.
We need to DRAFT wisely so we can get nice young role players like a Josh Howard etc.

We will probably never be to the point where we are under the cap, but we still need to watch our contracts so that we dont sign people with "immovable" contracts in case we go in different directions. We need to acquire people whose contracts are around market value so if we have to change directions these players will be in demand.

Bringing in Redd and moving Tmac to the 3 would be huge for this team. Talk about improving your outside shooting!

But I am not sure we would be able to get Redd. I have a feeling the Bucks WILL trade Redd this year though as he is a FA and word is the Cavs are HOT to get him in the offseason. The Bucks dont want to lose him for nothing so I expect him to be moved. BUT, is Mo + 1st rounder enough to get it done? Seems like there would be a better offer out there.

Think Denver with Nene would be be interested in Redd?

GATER made a good point about not getting under the cap anyway. I thought Antoine might be a better fit until I saw his FT% of .554 for this season. I thought it had to be an anomaly, but he has averaged the same for the last two seasons.

If you've got a 3P% of .330 and FT% of .550, you are not a good shooter. There is no way that someone with those stats can be helping his team by taking enough shots to get 20+ points per game.

    Let's stay away from Walker.

My thoughts exactly.....I hate the guy with a passion, hate his game, hate his attitude, but I would put up with him for half of a season to get rid of Mo's contract. Is Spoons contract up at the end of this year or does he have one more? If he has one more then this trade almost sounds too good to be true.

I have no doubt Atlanta would turn this offer down unless we included a first round pick.

Now my question is, if this does go down who are the available free agents next year we could look into getting?

    Deuce -
Good points. Redd is from Ohio so the Cavs probably have the inside track. Redd would be perfect for DEN but that creates two problems...who backs up KMart/Camby and can DEN keep Redd if he is a RFA? (DEN has cap space but IIRC Miller and Boykins are both FA's).

EDIT: Redd was not the point. The point is that Walker does not clear enough cap space to be a valued commodity and if we are looking to upgrade at PF, it's not coming via free agency. And it's not coming from the obvious....Brand, Wilcox, SAR, and the other "stars" that get mentioned with great frequency are not coming to HOU anytime soon. The upgrade comes from finding undervalued players like a Gadzuric.

    Thanks for the compliment.

Anyway, I didn't say Gadzuric is a bad idea. I like the guy. But he is a commodity to them of some kind.

Yes I know the Bucks probably won't be able to keep Redd. That's been well-documented, and I tried to allude to that fact by saying that the Bucks could net more for him. Redd may be a SF/SG in a league full of them, but he's a scorer and a very high-percentage outside shooter in a league desperately needing those. Especially unselfish ones who can create their own shot when necessary and are at least athletic enough to finish around the hoop.

I think Redd will get moved this year for those reasons, but I think they'll get more than Taylor and a first.

I don't think Taylor addresses any of their needs. I think between Joe Smith and KVH, they have all the Taylor-esque qualities one team can handle. Maybe the basic problem is that you think teams value Taylor more highly than I think they do..

it would be a dream for us to find a way to trade mo, howard, and spoon all for ending contracts.

before we find a PF for this team, we MUST make room at that position first by getting rid of our current PF's.

maybe howard, spoon, gaines, and our unprotected 1st would net us antonio davis's expiring contract. that would leave us with:

    yao-deke
    AD-mo-pad
    jj-boki-bowen
    mac-
    sura-ward-lue-barrett

this summer we will have enough distance from the luxury tax threshold that we can offer our full MLE to FA's.

i would hate it if the rockets get walker, i have disliked his game since i started playing basketbal. I do not like a player who does not know his own strenghts. He shoots to much 3 pointers and he needs the ball in his hands all the time.
