Personally, I don't care about a player's past. I'm only looking at the present. Yeah, I hate the Spurs with a passion.... but he chose to sign with us and he wants to play for us. So, for that... there's no hate involved. In my eyes, even though I don't like em now... if Duncan, Ginobili, or Parker were to come to Houston, would anyone really be devastated? If they put on Rockets red and play their heart out for us, there's no reason to hate that. The only exception on that Spurs team would probably be Bruce Bowen...
I was gonna say that too but i decided to leave it alone. I doubt the OP meant anything by it. ...but if he did.
I wouldn't hate any of the guys like Boozer, Nowizki, Duncan, Parker, etc if we can sign them freely. Only when they stay with other teams, I will hate them.
Kind of like the way that baseball has been getting a push to get more black athletes? It just seems like a double-standard. The fact that he mentioned he is white shouldn't have a negative implication. Every team needs a nice white guy that can shoot threes. How can you not love a Matt Bullard?
people state the race because its no secret that you guys would love some white athletes evidence, "white boy power squad" no one complained about that so there's your fictional double standard edit: I really don't care about this but let's not pretend that the race of the athletes matters to a lot of people. and I hate to here people state its only one way when its clear its across the board no one cares that a bunch of chinese citizens have flooded this site to follow a chinese athltete either
you weren't posting on this site when there was the white boy power squad, ironically jon barry, bob sura, and some other guys from the 04-05 team. that's what they referred to. and no one had a problem with it
Honestly, I don't have a problem with the Spurs. Only player I truly hate on there would be Manu. But Dallas is a whole different story.
When people say, "I don't think this is what the OP was trying to say, but it made it sound like you liked him because he was white," there are obviously negative implications with being white. Like a white guy should be ashamed for being proud of another honkey for succeeding in a black-dominated league. I have seen many times on ESPN where they get CC, Carl Crawford, Gary Matthews Jr, and Prince Fielder together and talk about how they hope more black kids start playing baseball and they try to reach out to them. You never see Chris Kaman, Ryan Bowen, Steve Blake, and Gordon Gayrichick talking about how there needs to be more white kids playing basketball. Because it is taboo to promote being white. It's like white people have a built in shame because they are a majority. There is your double standard.
The "white boy power squad" sounds more like a joke. It is also a common joke theme, made by people of all races, that is generally accepted for whatever reason. On the other hand, the OP does not appear to be joking and seems to be, maybe subconsciously, using "white guy" as if it is a positive attribute. The statement makes the casual assumption that being white is a trait that appeals to fans and is a reason to like a player.
first of all, the white boy power squad proves that some people like basketball players because they are white. second of all, no one complained about it. how does him being white have negative implications, the poster is only making the point that people are happy to have a white player on the squad. which again is proven by the white boy power squad he didn't say the only reason barry was on the squad is because he's white or that barry should be ashamed because he's white, that's a ridiculous leap of logic that you just made up to make it a bigger issue. in case you only know history of the last twenty years, it was big deal when black people started being allowed to compete in MLB. so to some people, it is a shame that black kids aren't competing in baseball anymore. I don't like the focus on black baseball players either, but it isn't a double standard. you see, white people in this country are the majority, they are the ones who are in the positions of most power, and no ever prevented them from competing in major league baseball, and that's why no one makes a big deal about it. of course you're smart enough not to have this explained to you, but since you're making up some stupid reasoning to claim a double standard, i'll go ahead and play along.
Why the insults? I never said anything about the OP. I am talking about the reactions from the responders. That "ooooooh he said he liked him because he is white. ooooh ahhhh." Why is it a shame? Black people can compete all they want now and actually excel in it. What is topping them from baseball?
