Generally, the fit, comfort and longevity of name brand items is noticeably better than those of off brands. What I don't understand is paying $300+ for a Coach purse.
Agree. Buy a Brooks Brother shirt and a Massimo or whatever Target brand is dress shirt and wear them both once a week for two months. You'll rapidly figure out why you paid more for the Brooks Brother shirt.
I just got a coupon from AMEX for $100 off a $300+ Coach purse. I knew my wife would not want it, but prior to throwing it away, we called a friend of ours and she definitely wanted it.
I actually disagree with this. The millionaires I know, including my wife's boss who is extremely wealthy, purchase high price clothes. The thing abou their clothes is that they aren't buying them for name brand recognition, because most of their clothes don't show off logos and such, its just the higher end Italian or French designed clothes. Mostly brands I've never heard of. I am not fashion expert, but at the level of clothing, you can tell a difference in quality, cut, and fashion. I will agree on the Brooks Brothers stuff too. I have a couple Brooks Brothers dress shirts that look at good now as the day I purchased them 8 years ago. I just happened to get them from Marshall's for $25.
Marshalls sells Brooks Brothers??? GET OUT OF TOWN! I'm an online bargain hunter, so I wait until I get deals to get them at like 50% off, etc. but $25 is a major steal. Do all Marshalls carry them? I also agree about the millionaires deal. The ones I know do the custom designed shirts that are made by foreign clothing designers. They tend to have no logo but might have a monogram on them. They do it because they fit perfectly and are made with great material.
that's nothing now. $1000 for louis vuitton is the new thing. i am sorry but that's just insane. i had a tough time trying to spend 1200 on a HDTV!
I buy expensive items only if they fit me really well...sometimes cheap items do not look good on me. My fave brand of jeans is Hydraulic because they fit me really well...only $40-50 bucks. Most of times, cheap brands are not that stylish so that's why Bebe, Banana Republic and etc are so expensive but for some items, you can get for cheap at Charlotte Russe. I am in a need for a shopping spree!!
I think Coach purses are ugly, honestly. I would not want one. But I do like expensive purses... when I can get the on the relatively cheap to moderate side. In all fairness, girls carry purses with them everyday, everywhere. I think it makes sense to invest.
I have no problem "investing" $30 bucks on a purse... I refuse to spend more than $50. You've got to be high out of your mind if you think I'm going to spend triple or quadruple digits on a purse. It's a bloody bag you put a bunch of stupid crap in and then set it down. All I really need is a small ID and my cell phone. I just think it's F'ing mindblowing to spend ridiculous amounts of money on something that sits on the floor, on a table, or on my carseat all day.
QFT I think expensive jeans and t-shirts that sell for $$$$ are just for status, etc. But quality dress shirts, shoes, etc., make a HUGE difference over time.
Not that I really care what people spend on purses, but I would think it would be the one thing that it would be OK to spend money on. It is the one fashion item that my wife carries all day, every day. She wears them out. They last years. Why would I care if she dropped a couple hundy on something that she uses everyday for a couple years?
What about people who spend $20 or more on a pair of boxers or underwear? For that same $20 I can get two 5 packs at Wal-Mart. Sorry, Hanes is good enough for me.
wow, $2,500k for a purse is way too much. I'll only spend $300 and that is it. I have four coach purses and only one of them, I had to spend about $200. I'll use them as long I can. They are a good investment! EDIT: Bobrek, yes, apparently!
