im taking about the bad boys pistons. the leauge enforced zones that adjust around the movement of the ball while teams would get away with zone on the bulls by adjusting the zone whenever the ball was in jordans hands and just playing regulated man again other players.
I defer to your opinion about the bad boy pistons didn't really see a lot of their games all i know is that zone was technically illegal under the rules in force at the time.
I was talking about the Pistons specifically, i know i dont have he knowledge to speak on every team specifically.
Personally this is how I would rank the Bulls/Lakers in both of their championship runs. 1. Bulls 1996-1998 2. Lakers 2000-2002 3. Bulls 1991-1993 4. Lakers 2009-2010
this how i, a Lakers fan, rank them. every one of MJ's championship teams are better any of Phil Jax 's Championship Lakers team.
Kobe's more humble...and you can take that to the bank nah just kidding. Seriously this is kinda getting old. Stop the bitterness/hatred already. We should just have one thread called "**** Kobe and I need to VENT ****", so when everybody's happy, we can delete all 1000 pages of it and call it a day.
I really hate this argument. Kobe played with hand checking early on in his career and his numbers really haven't gone up since the rule was put in place. People seem to overlook the fact that Kobe gets doubled off the ball all the time with the new zone defense rules. It is very rare to see Kobe get too many good one on one opportunities in a game. A few years ago the Raptors decided to give it a shot and see what one on one would be like and 81 pts later they found out. Not to say Jordan couldn't have done the same thing given the opportunity. Jordan had hand checking and Kobe deals with double teams. And once again to reiterate the original point Kobe did play with hand checking and was pretty damn good against it.
First, I think anyone who wants to join the Jordan vs. Kobe debate should post their AGE first. Only those that were old enough to watch Jordan actually play throughout his career can really say who is better. Just looking at a bunch of stats and team rosters and comparing like that doesn't mean jack. This has been a great thread to read but its obvious some of these posters started watched bball from the late 80's/early 90's but many others HAVE NOT. As for me, I'm 29 years old and started watching bball in '93 (cause of the Rockets). I missed out on watching the majority of Jordan's career so I can't say I "really" saw Jordan play. I watched his last 3-peat run but that was as a casual bball fan (I was more of a Rockets only fan back then). Would love to hear from other posters age 30+ and their opinions on how great Jordan really was and whether or not Kobe really deserves to be in the discussion.
I'm 48 and have been an avid basketball fan since the Rockets moved to Houston. I followed Jordan in college, mainly because they were a threat to PSJ. Watched him in Chicago mainly to see how he did compared to Dream. It took me awhile to get over the biases I had against Dean Smith and NC to really appreciate his game, though a big part of that was my rooting for Chicago when they played the Knicks. Anyway, Jordan by a mile. He has the advantage in athleticism, competitiveness, and inventiveness.
jordan saw double teams as well so i really dont see how the "jordan played with hand checking but kobe deals with double teams" argument works when Jordan was constantly double and tripled teamed. and kobe got 81 on the 2nd worst defensive team in the league in the worst defensive year of all time. not to discredit kobe becuase you still have to put the ball in the hoop but 05-06 was a terrible defensive year.
Just for fun (and this obviously doesn't need its own thread, so I'm sticking it here): Note that Jordan's year 10 was his first comeback, and his years 14/15 were after his second comeback.
im 24, im probably the biggest kobe fan here on clutchfans, and i still have to say jordan was better, but not by a mile. kobe will be the closest thing there is to jordan ever. kobe is pretty damn close, i mean jordan never had a team that kobe had in 06 and he still made the playoffs. i mean kobe has the mind of an assasin. his passion for the game is stronger than anyone else's, you cant deny tghat. he is the most competetive person in the nba, for me in the histroy of the nba. i mean he never quits, i mean call him a ball hugger, but even when the rest of the team quits, the man keeps trying to do everything. so the competitiveness goes to kobe.
