Had very similar experiences with one of the AMLI properties here in Houston... So glad to be out of that place! New managers every few months who had no idea about how to run the place... and they "lost" the records of any complaints filed under the previous managers. When we told them we wanted to get in touch with someone from corporate, they stopped returning our calls... pathetic.
Man, I used to live there back in 98-99. It was sweet, we had the apartment that's closest to the hot tub on the bottom floor. A lot of good times there. Of couse, that was partly the reason I flunked out of UT as well. One word of advice. Make copies of everything. Be sure to take pictures too.
Oh no. While reading your first post, I was hoping and praying that you didn't move to Greystone Park. I lived in that dilapidated sh*thole from August 02-03. That place is beyond substandard. Here's a list of problems we had there: - Mgmt turned off everyone's water for 4-5 days because there was a leak in the main. All they did was leave a couple of gallons of water on your doorstep. Meanwhile you had to make other accomodations for showering, etc. - My door didn't have any weather stripping so the energy bill was crazy high. - The year before we moved in, two women were assaulted by people breaking into their apts. look at the reviews on www.aptratings.com I feel really sorry for you. If you can, I would try to get out of that lease immediately, and move elsewhere. Anywhere but Greystone Park. That place is beyond human standards.
It's funny you should mention that, Baqui, because I had a really good friend live here last year. His apartment was nice, and every time he had a problem with something, maintenance came and fixed it right away... I had an overall good impression of that place. And then I made the mistake of moving in. I'm graduating in December and IF IF IF I can get a good job which will afford me to move out, then I most certainly will. This has been by far the most miserable place I've ever lived. It's a horrible feeling to lay in bed every night and feel like you're spending the night at someone's house - even though it's my house, and I'm paying out the ass for it. I felt more comfortable sleeping in the dorms than I do here. And francis 4 prez, the bill says the total for all the "damages" was $350 something. Minus my $100 deposit, the new balance is $250 something. Coincidentally, 250something is exactly how much they took out for "carpet replacement".... Basically, before I moved out, I asked if I should rent a steam cleaner and clean the carpet. They said no, they would do it and it would be taken out of my deposit anyway. So I didn't scrub every last spot on the carpet, because I was told they would do that anyway. Apparently, they didn't even bother to clean it and just decided to replace the carpet. This is where my beef with them is, that and the fact that the bill came 45 days after I moved out, not 30. So I'm going over there tomorrow and yelling at them.
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/PR/content/htm/pr.008.00.000092.00.htm Texas tenant/landlord law is pretty solidly in favor of the landlords, but I believe you're allowed some legal recourse if you do not get a timely response to a maintenance request you originally made in writing.
