Reread my post: I said this year and the latter part last season the fact is that Brooks and or Lowry haven't been both healthy at the same time playing together. With a healthy Lowry there to spell Brooks the collective defensive efforts of the back court improves. Brooks playing 40 minutes brings the good offense but the subpar defense. Using matchups, you can reduce Brooks' minutes to 30 or less while maximizing his time on the floor with players like Hayes and or Battier where his offense is needed.
He's not exactly unbiased. Every backup point guard feels like he could be starting, even if it's on another team.
Someone is going to be upset in this situation, Morey knew that would happen when he matched Kyle's deal. Hopefully they will put the frustration behind them, whomever is the backup. DD
Brooks will force a trade if he isn't given his starting job back. I swear Trevor Ariza rubbed off on Brooks last season.
If it does come down to that, then ship his ass out. He is hardly anywhere near star level and does not have any right to expect anything.
Lowry has been playing great. The one advantage he'll always have over Brooks is his defense and tenacity. With Brooks you know he'll probably have bad games against bigger PGs. If Lowry continues hitting his outside shot, i'd like to keep him as the starter.
I don't anticipate that he will maintain his hot streak, but typically good FT shooters are NOT bad shooters. When his feet is set, he is typically a decent shooter. I think the main issues with Lowry's shot is the lack of ability to adjust his shot when off balanced and confidence. It seems he is getting his confidence back, so it remains to be seen if he can learn to make minute adjustments to his shot. Good thing is, Lowry has never taken more than 140 threes in a season, though if he does start and gets increased minutes, it would be interesting to see how it turns out.
Wait, you guys are saying ship Brooks out if he complains? I hope you apply the same exact thing to Lowry if he complains about going back to the bench. Morey mentioned Dec 15th as a day trades open up, Lowry can be traded after that date.....why not sell high now that he is playing well. That is what all of you were saying about Brooks, right. DD
It's not that I want to ship Brooks out, i just don't think he's our long term PG if we want to win a chip. I love Lowry because he's got a knack for finding loose balls and is very tenacious guarding opponents. Brooks is very one dimensional. I don't see us winning a chip with an undersized 3 point shooter at PG. We need more from the position.
Both are undersized, both are flawed, neither is a superstar PG, however I believe both could start for a championship team if the right mix of players was around them. DD
If I had to keep one, it's def Lowry. This is coming from someone that yelled as loud as possible when I heard AB's name on draft night.
I want to keep both and get some better pieces around them, though NEITHER is untouchable if it nets us a better player. Lowry is the most tradeable as most of his skillset is covered by Ish and his cheaper contract...unless he keeps hitting his 3s...then it is more of a toss up. DD
Surprising stat: Rockets were .500 against teams with bigger PGs last season(Chi, Uta, Dal, Den, LAC, Bos, OKC) Sorry, just wanted to interject a little:
