I watched the game tonight with a bunch of my denver friends. They were all laughing at lowry and how bad lowry was. I told them about idiotic rockets fans wanting him to start and they couldn't believe it. Clearly, tonight was not indicitive of lowrys ability, but he was straight up horrible tonight
I agree!! From these games,i have to say that AB can't play nice as well as last season, everything was changed .Yao is back, this point is very important!
I dun think lowry should start over AB, but people underestimate something called "Defensive" these days.
AB and the Rokets were at their best when he was coming off the bench. The Rockets lose games when Lowry is out. I predict that Lowry will start before All-star break.
This would be the answer to 3 threads on the main page: 1. It's hard to mask both AB and Martin's defense So you bench one, since both have "defensive" backups. Kevin Martin is clearly the superior player, so he is the clear choice to start. Scoring is the only strength for both players, and Martin is the much more efficient scorer. AB has him on "creating for himself", but that only matters late in games when the score is tight, and offenses break down. There's no reason why AB can't finish the game in those instances. But for the majority of the game, you want to split them up for defensive purposes. 2. Aaron Brooks and his Potential contract I have a hard time imagining the Rockets forking over 9M+ for him, especially in light of his glaring weaknesses. But at the end of the day he will score his points, and there will inevitably be a team that overrates scoring and overpay for him. By playing him off the bench, we have a better chance of avoiding that scenario, and signing him back for cheap, or fair value. 3. This current thread. Defense is no doubt a big reason to bench AB, as already mentioned above. Your defense is only as strong as your weakest link. But to be honest, I could tolerate the lack of defense if it wasn't for one other fatal flaw. And this is my biggest gripe with Brooks. He just can't run a team. This has nothing to do with assists, or assist ratios. On occasion he makes very creative and brilliant passes. That's not what I'm talking about. This has nothing to do with him being a "scoring" PG. Tony Parker is a scoring PG. So is Nash, Deron Williams and Billups. Fisher is a scoring PG. Scoring is fine. That's not what I'm talking about. However, as a PG you have to be able to control pace, run a team, get the ball into the right hands at the right time. Control the game. This is true whether you are pass first or a score first. You simply don't jack up a 3 when you need a 2 near the end of the game, especially when you and your entire team has been totally off from 3 the whole game. You don't dribble the ball off your foot and end any chance of winning a close game. After his first game in over a week, Lowry looked rusty and out of sync. He shot 0-7. Yet somehow, the entire team still looked more fluid with him in the lineup. Why? Because on offense the ball never stopped. Crisp passes replaced everyone watching one guy dribble for the entirety of the shot clock. Yes, I realize that happened a few times because AB had a mismatch, but that still completely broke up the flow of the game. As a PG you just can't do that. With Kevin Martin scoring as efficiently has he is. With Scola continuing his dominant play from the WCs, from last year after Landry left. With Yao Ming showing that at least on offense, he could still be as reliable as ever. Kyle Lowry is the answer. We need him to start because he can be the engine that makes this whole damn thing run. His strengths fit the starting lineup perfectly. AB can look for his shot all he wants in a Microwave role off the bench. And for the love of God, if anyone says the starting PG has to be able to shoot... That might be one of the biggest fallacies.. The biggest flat out LIE to forward one's own agenda. The best PG in the league right now CANNOT shoot. His name is Rajon Rondo, and he is a championship caliber PG because he won a championship. Last year we had no scorers in the starting lineup, so yes, AB was a better fit. We have 3 potentially dominant scorers in the lineup now, so the PGs #1 job is to run the team. Not look for his own shot which is the least efficient out of all of them, or to completely bog down the offense, and completely shatter any semblance of defense.
AB just isn't getting it done. Yao, Scola, and Martin equals a lot of touches. I think he could do better with the second unit as the main scorer.
I trust the staff, so we will have to see how it plays out. Would you be so gracious if they make the change?
I agree........ people need to stop with the: brooks is best for this team right now stuff, cuz he isnt. But he does have trade value.
I've been waiting for Brooks to prove me wrong for a while now. Don't get me wrong, i don't want to trade Brooks, i just don't want him starting.
As much as I've dogged him for his defense, brought up Billups and complained about his lack of composure at times...I do have hope for the guy. I see brief but substantial glimpses of Steve Nash in him and hope he can begin to evolve into that type of small, quick and explosive guard. He needs to make it happen THIS year, though, it's his contract year and he already grumbled about his deal this preseason so he needs to make it happen. I speak for myself when I say that I can overlook his defense, if he is performing at a high level on offense. This team is guard oriented and Yao is along for the ride from now on, so Aaron needs to be a consistent performer night in and night out for his other limitations to be accepted. This means keep those assists at 7 or 8 per game, limit the turnovers and hit at least 40 percent of his threes...do all that and he will be fine.
Yeah, if it worked out... And I turst them too, they have said.....AB is the best PG on the team.... DD
Ish Smith, but pure PGs are dead...got to be able to score the ball in the new perimeter oriented NBA. Even Rondo is an efficient scorer and is not relying on the referees to bail him out of the jumping into players situation. DD
Rondo averages 10 PPG for his career... No, you don't have to be able to score. Especially when you have 3 great scorers around you.
