During the latter part of his rookie season, he seemed to have turned a corner and there was a lot of excitement that he would turn into one of the best scorers in the league. Then he reverted back to his newbie form at the beginning of his second season, only to turn it back up in the latter part. This is the 3rd season he has started poorly. And you are right, the great games seem to be less frequent. It is so weird. Very seldom do I see a player getting worse when he gets more experienced.
To folks from other NBA towns who are not avid fans, the reels are a product of name recognition. To the casual fans from these cities, they still think Jalen is our best piece. Maybe a few of them recognize Sengun's rise. But it cant be many if Jalen still dominates the highlight reels.
I can't even watch the videos but I know how disgusting they would be. It's comical those that harp on just how improved he is defensively. Here's the thing - going from the worst defender in the league - to top 5 worst defenders in the league isn't something to write home about. The NBA 2K dev team must've sat on his Defensive IQ slider for days wondering if they should keep it at zero. Every single thing with his game seems to always come down to the same root cause - his basketball IQ - or severe lack thereof.
jalen doesn't fit should be obvious how we're going to build length and 3-pt shooting on the wings with guys that can move their feet, switch and defend jalen fits none of that he was drafted before ime that will be the story when he is traded send him to atlanta for aj or toronto for gradey dick or somewhere for a mid lottery pick in 2024 or 2025 cam is bigger stronger longer and already a far far superior shooter and finisher we lose nothing defensively only thing we lose trading jalen is his upside whatever that is he's 2 1/2 years in hasn't happened it is highly unlikely it happens at all for him and even more unlikely it happens here with ime and his style we need 6-6 to 6-10 guys with long arms and quick feet that can shuffle defensively contest 3s and knock down 3s everywhere around sengun that is why it is very unlikely jalen ever fulfills any promise here trade him for aj or gradey dick or wendell carter or a future pick and a guy like kennard it is time to embrace the ime era completely
People took offense when we said the painted nails was a red flag. Little emo softies don't belong on the basketball court. You think Tari or Dillon or Fred would be crying about their feelings when things don't go right?
We can only hope the team is leaving him in a starters role until the trade deadline to try to increase his perceived worth to potential trade partners??? If that is not the case then they are clueless. It is time to give Cam Jalen's minutes.
I could’ve sworn I’ve seen him post something similar in his rookie year…might not be him but I’ve definitely seen someone post this image. Either way, he just needs to play the game and focus on improving his weaknesse. Love him or hate him, all Rockets fans want him to be good
I will refrain from attributing the underperformance to Jalen, as the primary problem seems to lie with those responsible for his continued presence on the court, despite observable evidence that his contribution is not improving and, in fact, is detracting from the team's overall dynamic. The front office exhibits a notable lack of competence, as evidenced by the poorly constructed roster.
JG is soft, and the sad thing is the franchise knows this and is doing everything they can to help him keep his confidence. The thing is as a competitor you can not have this much self doubt, you need to mentally be able to overcome things with your own process, he was likely coddled his whole life and seems to need that now. It is obvious Ime is doing it and our commentating crew is doing it , trying to grasp onto anything positive he does. He is reading social media, his teammates know he is and are trying to help him too. I don't think painting his finger nails was the red flag, athletes do stuff a 9-5 person wouldn't, the black polish is common, Westbrook is not great but he does not lack confidence and he will wear a skirt, plenty of guys in the league were rocking small man purses when it was in style a couple years ago. i think the red flags should have been in more in depth interviews, an analysis of how the G league prepares players for the NBA, and a deeper dive into what his short comings would be. JG is not smart, we know that now. We heard him speak, and we see that lack of intelligence translate to the floor. I wish teams put more pressure on guys like this in the off season and provided more resources and more structure in the off season, the off season seems to be all up to the player on what they want to do and a lot of guys train in areas that don't make much sense. They hire their own trainers and are pretty much on their own, this is a bad idea for someone like JG who needs a lot of help to get to a decent contract.
