Kelvin Cato would've won this hands down his first year here... he had a triple double and was like a block away from a second one IIRC...
Looking at how competitive the West is, a team could have competed extremely hard to get out of the West and then sweep whoever represents the East. So the final round could be the easiest round. If a player is stellar in the first 3 rounds but is watered down for the last round because he doesn't need to play as hard, he could miss out on the MVP if one of his teammates plays better that last round. That doesn't mean he's a choker. Remember when Ginobili was the best player when Spurs won their third championship? He was their best player for 3 rounds. Then Duncan played well that last round and won the MVP.
What's the point. You dont reward the losers, and that's what playoff is about. Final's MVP is enough.
I do A guy who plays great is a great player regardless of his teams success. If you take that guy off of a bad team and put him on a team with great role players he might do something special.
True story. Also the awards don't really mean much anyways. Robinson over Hakeem? Camby for DPOY. And don't get me started with the COY winners.
You are correct here! The NBA has an award for everything, almost surprised we dont have Sixth Man of the Finals award or Coach of the Finals for that matter...MVP of the playoffs is an empty accomplishment almost like winning MVP and not advancing to the second round, but thank goodness that never happens right?!? LOL
Now that is some interesting trivia. I would have imagined the Finals MVP had to be in the winnning team. How can you reward a loser? Oh, wait it happened last year with Dirk... Will happen again this year with Kobe.
