I doubt Bush is still radioactive, politically. I think he'd be able to help Romney. He just doesn't want to be involved.

Notice how must of the hardcare repubs on here, who voted and campaigned for bush 2 times, exactly the same as how they are campaigning for romney right now, are M.I.A. in this thread.

Bush is still popular in some parts of the country, less so in others. Same as every other president. From 2010:

He is a terrible president. Under his watch we went into the worst economic crisis since the great depression. We had two unpopular wars. The worst stock performance of any president in the last 50 years. Real Wages are down. I guess his aid to africa was good. He is been a failure in literally everything he has done.

Bush was actually invited to the RNC to speak and declined.

You thinking Bush sucked does not mean the rest of the country does or that he is 'radioactive'. His book, which came out in 2010, sold very well (better than Clinton's iirc). Lots of people still love/respect him.

I agree with the poster who said that by next election he will not be toxic at all.

If it was only as simple as a poll question.

If Bush came out of hiding to campaign, Dems would turn him into swiss cheese. Romney (or whoever Bush campaigned for) would be tarred and feathered with him.

Bush's handlers know from history the best and fastest way for his image to recover is to stay in hiding until the sun comes back up. When the economy is better, we'll see more of Bush.

LBJ would have probably drawn boos at too public a crowd in too big a city, Bush is probably the same way; plus I think he's having fun making loads of money with Carlyle and other corporate boards, and just hanging out in North Texas. For better or worse, I think government work was just a coda at the end of his recovery from rock bottom.

Time heals everything. Even Nixon came out of hiding in the early 1980s.

Do you have a link for this?

That seems incredibly stupid of the RNC.

Asking Bush to campaign for Romney is like asking AIDS to campaign for cancer.

That would have cost the R's more votes.

the guy privatized his security firm into the TSA, he & his entourage profited big time from the Iraq war, his oil co's rode a big bubble due to deregulation of commodity future holdings in 2000 ect & the whole while he presided over reduced taxes on the .1%'ers

This guy got himself and his boys paid like no other on the back of the US taxpayer. If i was that soulless prick i'd be chillin in retirement too. He put in a 25 year career in politics and came out the other side extremely wealthy. He got what he wanted out of the deal like any other career. Lots of $ in the bank.
