It's only easier to pick-up-and-play than baseball or football if you have access to a properly installed basket and a flat floor. With baseball and football, you can practically make any open space into a field.

It's harder for old, fat people to relate to basketball. One, they don't like the blacks and all their tattoos. Two, they can't sit in their recliners and even halfway convince anyone that they used to be as good or close to as good at basketball as the pros are. Baseball, on the other hand is a sport that makes Joe ****** feel good about his physique and activity level while at the same time allowing him to talk about his "glory days" of playing high school baseball and how he would have been drafted had he not hurt his elbow his senior year.

Agreed. Football is way more team-oriented than basketball.

My thoughts are that growing up sports are meant to be more team-oriented and meant to make sure that everyone gets involved. Thus kids play crap sports like soccer and tee-ball.

Basketball is the epitome of a sport where the greater physical talent dominates a game. Especially at the lower levels before conditioning/strategy can be exposed. Some kids develop faster than others or are just more physically gifted. This makes it pretty uninteresting to just be a passive participant while the one kid dominates.

At least in baseball everyone pretty much gets a similar experience and in football someone like the lineman can directly see the benefits of his work.

If you have 6 or 8 people how are you going to play football or baseball. The field is too big for so few people. For basketball all you need to lie 2 people and a hoop which every elementary school has.

Sports television ranked by American viewers:

    1) Football (only 16 games, easy to keep up with but then you start buying the portrayal of other team's characters. It's easy to sell/rig because so many people buy into this stuff.)

    2) Baseball (162 games in a season, but the game does not slow down as much as the other two due to the refs.)

    3) Basketball (82 games in a season. On every other night. The first three quarters tend to drag on because of fouls and time outs which play a major part in the advertising revenues. Then the 4th quarter arrives and 12 minutes of game play is extended into 30 minutes when there is only 48 minutes in an entire game. This turns a lot of casual viewers away.)

I will leave you with this. Tracy McGrady made many Houston Rockets fans rich in 2004-2005 until the playoffs.

    Let's see...

Right field and pitcher=Point Guard and Center...

Basketball gets player much more involved. EVERYONE has to be able to catch and pass and dribble. Good basketball atleast...

That is ridiculous. The race card gets played on everything, and now it is being played on people who's first love isn't basketball. You are racist, by assuming everyone is racist who doesn't agree with you, regardless of their reasons.

How about there are too many games in the NBA season, like baseball, making each one lose its importance? In football, each and every game is of the utmost importance. In the others a loss is no big deal, until late in the season.

How about you grew up playing football in team sports and only played basketball in pick up games? You are much more connected to football.

How about you feel basketball is much funner to actually play than to watch? I promise you that most people fall into this category. The strangest thing is that they play with other races when they play. Who would have thought that was an option since they are all racist?

How about you do enjoy watching it, but don't have time to watch the games every other night for 5 months?

How about you enjoy college, or highschool, or round robin more than the NBA?

Those are only a few reasons. There are a million reasons why one could like another sport, level of sport, or not like sports at all, but it has to be racism. That is the crutch for the weak. I think the only thing the race card does anymore is show who is really racist when it is the only thing one can fall back on. Get a clue.

The less white players that are in the league, the less interest from white people.

    Fact.

    Sad, but a fact...

If you want to bring up race, baseball is mostly white (60%) with a good chunk of latino (30%) players. Basketball is mostly black (82%). Football 66% black and 31% white.

I guess that explains Hockey's staure as the top sport in America. Oh,nevermind I forgot that even though pretty much only white people play hockey that hardly anyone cares about it. Again, you are not helping your case

    Fixed
You could do that for any less popular sport.

    Like Nascar...

    Awful, awful logic...

There is no case, If the NBA was 50 percent white, more people would watch.

If you had a few white Lebrons, MORE PEOPLE WOULD WATCH!!! Because they could better relate to the product! The audience is rich white folk! GET IT?

Is it awful logic because it disproves your logic?

Well Hockey wasn't founded in America so no it's not going be that popular, even if it's a bunch of white people playing.

Most people are more fond of sports that originated from the country that they grew up in.

Soccer is not the most popular sport in America which we are talking about.

And yes it generally was one of the first sports in almost every other country besides America.......thus why it is arguably the worlds most popular sport.

In other countries it represents tradition, rivalries...etc. It just means so much more in other countries.

Traces of soccer start 1,000 years BC, add to the fact of how simplistic of a sport it is/was to pick up, and you have reasons as to why older nations picked it up.

Then how do you explain the world wide soccer craze? or baseball being so popular in Cuba, japan, and many other countries around the world? What about basketball and football's rapid spread across the globe?

You are trying to limit it to a few sports to try to help a severly flawed argument. Even with the stats posted above saying football is 66% black and basketball 82%, it weakens that argument. Are you saying that in 2 sports dominated by a non white race, that 16% is the difference in interest?

It does not disproved in the slightest.

The people paying for tickets are white.

Obviously more white players would help more fans relate, and sell more tickets.

It is much easier to take your son to a baseball game and see Derek Jeter than it is to an NBA game and see Allen Iverson or Stephen Jackson or Ron Artest. The NBA has a "thug" aura surroundng it, and it is an undeserved reputation, but it is what it is.
