Why is Ron not used as a post up option opposite the lane from Yao? His strength should enable him to score from down low rather than do whatever it is that he's been doing in this series. He is not a 3 point shooter, but is a brute. Why not use him as such? (I don't think he is very efficient as a post-up player. I think he is his best when in a position to be decisive, either to catch-and-shoot open perimeter shots, including 3s, or to drive aggressively, rather than to slowly probe off the dribble. If he can cut to a low blocks position and catch a pass in that spot, that's fine, but I think the offense bogs down when he posts up in simple turn-outs as much as when he tries to create one-on-one facing the basket. -- Jonathan) This answers your question. Now you know the truth
Does anyone remember the offense we got from Artest at the start of the season? Probably due to the fact we had TMac in team and Artest got less attention from the defense, but he was putting up some gawdy offensive numbers (at least in comparison to what we get now) He was our 3rd scorer, which he would have been perfect at being, as a 2nd scorer (or a 1st) not so much.
He was utter CRAP at the start of the season, the only hot streak he had was after Tmac went out. What season were you watching? DD
and yet we have peeps saying having ron would "destroy" guys in the post dude has been a huge thud offensively so far. thank god we have others picking up the slack in battier, wafer, scola, lowry, and even brooks for he most part.
He got blocked when he go inside...that's because he's not posting up...he's DRIVING!! And he has no lift...that's why!! He needs to post up and back down and drive...that is his strength!! Have you ever seen him doing that?? NO!! It's always Ron with the ball at the 3pt line and then RON drive and get blocked!! He hardly EVER back down at the low post on the left or right side anymore!! When he was with the Kings, he did that constantly with Bonzi Well to ****ed up Ginobili....Ginobili can't do a damm thing about it!!!
Hmm maybe I need to review my tapes. I remember him hitting some clutch shots specifically in a game at Dallas.
Since I wanted to post here I'm just gonna copy and paste: The guy can't drive the the basket and is only effect scoring if Yao is getting the ball or he's on the post. Too bad he'd rather chunk up bad shots instead of getting on the block. I'm sorry I love Artest's heart and toughness but because of his mind and body I wouldn't resign him. He's just too slow and if you can't go to the basket you're gonna have a low FG%.
I think Les should do some 1 on 1 tutorial sessions with Ron. What I think would work real well in Ron's game is that move that Tmac always does in the post. All he has to do is crab dribble a couple of times, turn over either shoulder and do the tmac head and shoulder fake, then step through. It doesn't require much athleticism, and works a lot of the time. If they play for the fake, then just launch that fadeaway in the paint. That shot is pretty money compared to all his other "moves".
Ha. I can barely remember it ever working for Mac....if anything its a case of the 'little boy who cried wolf' type scenario.
who would he post on the blazers? in order to post you need to have a strength and height advantage. ron has outlaw guarding him who is a total 2 feet higher than him with his arms raised. ron would get his shot swatted every time, oh wait he already does.
Ron need to be calm. If he work as game4 and like Brooks in game5, we'll hace hugu trouble too. I like what Ron did in game 1 and part of game4(Feeding to Yao). Good judge ,good assist, and Spash to the basket...with toughness.
Might be something to try, but I'm not sure that solves much of anything. If you want post moves/scoring, theres Scola, Landry, sometimes Yao. If anything, it may preoccupy Ron and get him to stop dribbling around all over the place, there's a plus. Not sure I trust his hands, though...
Roy guards Battier when he is in there and if Ron was posting there is no way the Blazers would let Roy guard him and risk foul trouble. think before you create a thread
I think it's ron himself that feels reluctant to attack the rim at the low post, it's his contract year after all.
