I think this correct as well. Let him be the alpha with the second unit. Good call just so he still gets 25-30 mins a game. Of course, if Gordan is gone he would go back to starting.

The bolded part proves my point. James Harden iso ball didn't win a championship and while good for the regular season wasn't championship-winning basketball. Silas stated when he was hired he wanted to make the offense more versatile and less reliant on the heroics of one really good player that thrives in iso situations. Green's being used correctly by being made to learn to play off-ball. He's not good enough right now to be given the autonomy to "cook" and make decisions on-ball because he's not a good enough passer yet. Right now he's in a situation where he can get up his own shots without having to worry about setting anyone else up. All he has to do is hit his shots more consistently and we would be happy at this point with his development. Making him be more ball-dominant now would just be putting a lot more on his plate when he's still struggling with finding offensive consistency, and would be detrimental to the development of the other young players on the team.

Ok. That’s fine. That Harden discussion is for another thread and I don’t want to derail. We can just agree to disagree about that moment in Rockets history. There are other topics this has been hashed out ad nauseam.

I believe that a guy that is used to having the ball in his hands needs opportunities to have the ball in his hands in order to develop. That in addition to whatever they want him to learn off ball. Simple as that. I have repeatedly said I don’t think he needs to be the PG or that the offense needs to be run through him 100% of the time.

Trading Wood and starting Sengun would also be detrimental to the team in some ways right now, but I’m not worried about this year. It would set us up better for the future in many ways. KPJ was detrimental to the team up until recently, but they let him dominate the ball and found out what he could and couldn’t do.

Half of the NBA is playing that style of versatile Offense, it is no Silas big secret!

Green's stats would be better if he was on-ball...maybe. But would you rather have a dual-headed monster in the backcourt with both KPJ and Green where the defense has to worry about guarding both of them, or just one ball-dominant guard that's good at scoring? When you think about it, the Rockets and Silas' plan for the offense is a good one, and very ambitious. If it works and the players develop as they should, we'll have a very high ceiling in the playoffs. I just think ball-dominant guards limit your chances in the playoffs. I'd rather have a more free-flowing offense where everyone is getting touches. If Green can learn to move off-ball, he will be significantly more valuable as a player.

What Silas said and what he's actually done are not always the same.

Silas ran plenty of iso ball with Harden, except Wall was doing most of the iso-ing.

And when Harden was traded Silas still ran iso ball with Wall AND Dipo.

The team better be above high above 0.500 when that happens, I do not want to have another fool's gold in sweet Rafa land.

He and KPJ are the same type of offensive player, both need the ball in their hands......Green had 5 assists and 3 turnovers - pretty meh, but not bad.

Right now KPJ is a better NBA player than Green, I think the org will need to decide at some point whom they want - and trade the other one - unless one can learn to catch and shoot better......

Green can't run the offense right now his handle is below average, his fundamentals are below average - he is very fast and quick, he needs a ton of work to become a good NBA player. He is a guy that has gotten by on athleticism his whole life and now needs to catch up to those that put in the work on dribbling, moving off the ball, defense, and shooting.....

Why is it that people only point out offense, we lost by a lot, and our defense was way worse than usual......which is usually the case with Green on the court.

Gun to your head and you have to bet all your money on this choice since you don’t think ultimately they can coexist. Out of the 2 players, who should the Rockets risk building the team around?

If you’re answer is Green, that’s why he needs the ball in his hands more often. Not necessarily playing point guard full time, but more of a hand in the play making responsibilities. Even if the results aren’t as good right now. This is a future bet. Like playing the stock market. You invest in what you think is going to give you the best chance of giving you a return on your investment.

I would take KPJ - Green's fundamentals are way behind. (Also, KPJ might be cheaper due to his issues - allowing for more money to be spent elsewhere).

KPJ is a better defender, ball handler, and passer, and is left handed, which is an advantage.....so, Green would go if I had to choose.

What I am hoping is that Green learns to catch and shoot, and builds his fundamentals like dribbling, moving off the ball, and defense, so they can play together.

I also fundamentally disagree with you about Green needing the ball, if that is the case, send him to the G-league....

He's run predominantly iso ball most of this season too if we're being honest. As much as the 2 big lineups are scapegoated, majority of our players would be doing much better if we ran actual plays and sets beyond handoffs at the 3pt line and faux pick and roll with no actual picks.

Having multiple players that can run the offense is a luxury. Stone knew about his roster issues and still loaded up on guards looking for the homerun perimeter player (Dipo and Wall notwithstanding). Find the guy who can win you a game in the final possession and the rest will take care of itself with Scooter seeming to have a knack early for that very scenario. Development = losing games. Must hold fast.

Why not have Wood pass it to either KP or Jalen instead of dribbling himself after a rebound. Wood does this like 1,000,000 x. Split that up. And what happened to staggering the minutes. Tried it twice then went back on it.

If Silas REALLY wanted the team to run, he would have whomever guarded the shooter on the perimeter immediately leak out to the edge by midcourt for a quick rebound outlet pass, ala the Lakers and Magic in Showtime.....

Then go attack with early offense and people filling the lanes.....

Doesn't matter whom it is, but one of the guards or SFs......have ONE leak out to start the break.

I disagree, putting the ball in the hands of a scrub that isn't ready for that isn't always a recipe for success.....it could just hamper their development even further as opposing players school him and he becomes a laughing stock....it can also destroy any trust their teammates might have in them.

Green isn't a primary ball handler, I don't think he'll ever be one.

His strength right now is that when defenses aren't set, like in transition, his first step allows him to get by players and get to the rim. In the future, he might also develop some kind of shot from outside and maybe someday he'll develop some kind of moves once he gets by his guy so he won't just be blocked if the defense is set. He'll be able to eat plenty if those things happen.

He's simply not a James Harden type combo guard. The closest to that we have is KPJ.....so let KPJ live the combo guard life and let Jalen Green learn how to play a traditional SG role. That way they both benefit and maybe you have 2 star players in a few years.

If Silas was competent, he'd realise that having any 2 of Kpj, Green, KJ and Christopher leaking out at pace would make us VERY difficult to guard in transition based on athleticism alone. You may keep up with one of our guys, you're going to struggle with the pace of 2 or 3 of them together. But, as in most things, Silas' "genius" doesn't appear able to recognise simple, basic principles of basketball.

agree on him being a better ball handler. also has better court vision. but his passing accuracy and timing are worse than green's imo. and most importantly, he's not as willing a passer. on the contrary he's got the selfish gene.

green needs a lot of work in a lot of areas, but at the same time shows more promise imo. plus he's not a headcase. i'd prefer to see him play most of his minutes w/ josh instead, as green and kpj don't appear to compliment each other's games.
