Why is this logo considered ugly?

I honestly wouldn't mind if the Rockets went back to this:

Obviously modernize the rocket, change the colors to ketchup and mustard, and give the font a little bit more edge, but it's a classic look, with a classic style. I LOVE the old championship era logo, but it always kinda bugged me that it really has nothing to do with ROCKETS. This logo takes care of that without looking to kitschy.

Would anyone really like the championship era colors/logo if they were not associated with the championship era? The colors themselves are hideous, they look like a McDonald's uniform. The logo is a big basketball, differentiating itself from all of the other basketball teams how? The way half of the letters are lowercase for no particular reason is stupid. There is really nothing terribly appealing about them. I think the only reason people like them is they associate them with the championship team.

I found it odd that all the "obviously"s you mentioned you failed to acknowledge that you'd change San Diego to Houston.

That is so juvenile! Can I not express my prepubescent love for the dildo without invoking sexual undertones?! Seriously, what could one possibly infer about one's sexual orientation based on their preference of sports logos? Case in point, here are some of my faves:

Of course, you can't forget the fabulous uniforms

LOL I ran into that and was going to post it here too.

My new favorite is the Ft. Wayne Pistons:

Oh, no....I was actually implying that the team should move to San Diego.....was that not clear??

Before some Internet Tough Guy comes in with a broken sarcasm meter, and lays the smacketh down on me, I should probably make it clear that I was just kidding. I actually meant to make some snarky comment about how it was TOO painfully obvious to include changing San Diego to Houston, but I just plumb forgot. I'm glad to see that people actually read my posts close enough to catch these things though. Thanks Donkey! :p

What I like about the current logo is that I can draw it and only have to pick up my pencil two or three times for a quick sketch of the general idea of the logo. It'll take me no longer than 3 seconds to do so. It's simple and very recognizable.

Try drawing the Rockets cartoon logo. yeah that will take you at least 10 minutes. Mavericks current logo? about the same amount of time. I think it's cute when I see little kids holding signs at the Rockets games with their drawings of the Rockets logo, or a kid I babysat decorated his folder with Rockets logos he drew, which they couldn't likely do with a lot of the other NBA logos. I love the championship logo, but I think they really have something great with the current and I hope it stays for many years to come. As for the cartoon logo, I thought it looked like a combination of a shark/shot & needle, which are both pretty intimidating. I used to love that logo, mostly for nostalgic purposes of when I was young and first lived in Houston, but I came to my senses about a year ago and can no longer stand it. lol

It was designed by Chris Hill. That logo is no longer cached (or at least I couldn't locate it).

As far as I remember it was yellow, red, and black. Font was a little smaller and instead of a "dildo" it was a small, discreet black rocket.

Also, here's the 90s logo minus the rocket shark:

And, why not, the isolated dildo:

I always liked it, especially the blastoff court.
