Most republicans don't know how the real world works so I guess we know why he is so popular now don't we.
To compare intelligent serious Dems, just because they lost elections, to some of the recent clowns running for the GOP is stupid.
The two party system essentially guarantees a pivot and eventual recovery. At the heart of politics is the urban and country divide... that will pretty much never change until areas in the U.S. stop qualifying for Third World world standards. Right now though, the Republican Party is more like regional federations loosely held by crazies, bigots and big game tax dodgers...errrummmuhh...wealth creators. The moderates who still exist are weeded out by both sides. Meanwhile, neoliberal economic policies on the left makes Dem decisions appear 'sensible' or 'balanced' despite how right of center they would've been 25 years ago. U.S. politics is more conservative despite the pitiful condition of the national Republican Party. Definite debate topic there...
In each of those years the party fractured in ways that undercut their platform and electoral strategy, I could probably replace '48 with '72 given the respective outcomes but the parallels to the GOP's perceived disarray this cycle are apparent enough.
